Liverpool v West Brom - Match Thread

Inept second half. Williams hasn't got enough pace at this level. It's a mystery how that wasn't noticed before by the staff. Just took to long and lacked any creative spark in midfield. Will come up against packed defences so we have to be smarter. Jones has to lay it off quicker in dangerous positions.

Plenty to moan about. That bloated dinosaur Allardyce stealing a point comes top of my whinge list.
Yeah, I was shocked by how easily the forward burnt passed him for that chance.

I was thinking Klopp might try and ride out the season with what we have. NVP seems to be down the pecking order from Williams now, it appears Williams isn't quite the full package.

We'll need to buy.

If Matip stays fit we win the match. But it's like saying if Boris was honest we'd be looking at a decent 2021. It just doesn't compute. We need a new centre half or two.

I didn't think it was offside, but fabinho was also weak

It was a poor goal all round and in truth could have happened any time through the second half. Midfield 3 dropped off the pace, then Jones wasn't switched on. When it is only 1-0 you have to work your balls off to prevent an equaliser. If you don't do that you will get caught out...even against a team as crap a West Brom.

You can't just rely on wave after wave of attacks to do it, you have to do your job all over the pitch.

Last thing...with all that space we had in midfield. Our midfielders having all the time in the world to pass it into the box and it never occurs to Klopp that we have a midget on the bench with a God-given talent for hitting floaters, crosses and finding player in the box?
Instead he gives us fucking Ox?
Ox?!
What was he supposed to do?! Run into players?
Man...at first I thought his pace could have helped, but I guess I forgot.

Fat Sam, WBA being our bogey team and winning 7-0 the last game. It was written in the stars that draw.
On to Newcastle, i expect much better and a win.

I have to say. Jones was very very poor. Like so poor he was actually fucking shit. still he is only young and all that.

Yeah. If only he'd do that then it wouldn't matter that loads of brainless idiots still meet in groups and infect each other. Bloody scientists, bloody politicians.

Nope

*that still is after the attacker has made contact with the ball, and he's still clearly a yard onside

Thanks.
If Allison doesn't touch it, and one of the other WBA players smashes it in, they are offside though.
At least that was my first thought. But I don't know what to think anymore when it comes to rules.

2nd half was awful.
We played well in the 1st half and really should have scored more goals.
Maybe I’m being harsh but I counted only one other strike which properly tested Johnston in 90 minutes. Even in the first half, you could tell which way this was going. Cross, cleared— rinse and repeat 🙄

Or maybe the dropped points have altered the colour of the game for me ... we’re still top of the league and after all we’ve been through that has to be something.

Could've sworn I saw a clear handball by one of their defenders, challenging Sadio for a header from a Hendo cross from the right, early on, before the goal - There were no replays and no discussion of it, though... Anybody else, or was I momentarily cnuted and seeing things?

And I was SOOOOOOO feckin' obvious that Curtis was about to make a huge mistake as he needlessly dragged the ball back towards our goal, in the lead up to their goal... He had so much time to do ANYTHING else that would not have led to the corner that produced the equalizer. As soon as he turned back in, instead of heading down the line with it, alarms sounded in my head - F@#$ing ridiculous decision.

I also saw this.

Was a poor decision, lets hope he learns from it. I would put his performances so far as decent. Odd blemish but he still has promise. Thing for me is often the midfield balance sometimes looks a bit too safe. Thought, intially that Jones would add a bit of flair but he seems content to be on the periphery, proding and shifting it sideways, which is OK but it's just a bit of a no risks type of game.

I thought he was ok today until that complete balls up. That said your 19 year old trainee should be able to give the odd stoopid corner away without it costing us points.

In truth he's been OK since he came in. Perhaps we expected a bit more given that he isn't shy in telling everybody that he is destined for greatness. Maybe as I've said previously, that he is playing himself in, and doesn't want to take to many risks. Fair enough but we need to see more before we start thinking in terms of longevity here.

I think he's good enough. Just a shame so many people made mistakes in that minute or two. His was the first and most important mistake, but your senior colleagues should step up.

We should have been out of sight by the time Jones had made that error. And even then, conceding a corner shouldn’t automatically mean a goal.

All these dropped points I can't help but feel wouldn't be the case if we had Virgil around.

Not only do we get a few more "cheap goals" from set pieces to kill off chancers like WBA. But we also defend them far better and don't give away cheap goals.

We need a commanding aerial presence (with good pace) to come in, in January.

I agree that he's good enough, by the way... This wasn't a 'Curtis is shite' post - It was a 'Curtis made a shite decision that time' post.

So disappointing because it's so f@#$ing needless. For me, it's honestly up there with Kolo simply passing the ball to their center-forward against this same shower of shite, back that season that we almost won it under Rodgers... I screamed "What the fuck are you doing?!?!?" as he did it then, and I did it again today. Can never understand when pros made such idiotic decisions...
