Liverpool v Newcastle Match Thread

I have to say, it's been a joy watching Oxlade running into space behind their midfield this game.

We have to get a second goal, we don't have that Mourinhoesque resolve to hold on to a 1-0 for 45 minutes... scratch that we just scored! Oh Mane Mane!!!!

Was just about to say Newcastle are pressing higher up the pitch and then we score. Get in

It's mad to think we thought Mane had a great season last year and "only" scored 13, and has been poor this year and scored 14 so far. Just Salah raising expectations?

Yeah, that's partly it, although Mane did have a poor spell, and it wasn't just about a lack of goals. He's certainly not been quite as fluent, still

Klopp was obv aware of it cos he mentioned training with him to get him playing central cutting in from the left & building his confidence doing it, & then said the other week "He's back" after the game.

His best work comes in the centre when he starts out wide, so assume it has been a learning process transferring that play from one side to the other having been shifted over.

Could it be something to with Mane bring moved from his favoured right side? He prefers playing on the right, yet has scored more goals this season on the left than he did on his favoured right side. Hopefully next season when he gets to grip with playing on the left the rhythm that he enjoyed in his first season will return.

Big Virg is having a good start to his life as the (current) Most Expensive Defender In The World
We're yet to see his impact on free kicks too, he can really ping them in the box but we've not given him the chance yet (presumably cos we don't trust the rest of the defence to cover yet if they break from it).
