Remember when it was a big competition and the Manc's didn't even bother entering the FA cup to go to it. But that was Ferguson's decision so it was ok. A decision that finished the FA cup as a serious competition for all time, in my opinion. Never mind the League cup.

100% this. It never recovered.

It was a great win by great players and great people. Well deserved. The league cup, when we won the treble, was a proper first XI competition that was often really tough from start to finish, so when pundits belittle that achievement they're just being bitter idiots. The sooner they make the current league cup into a lower league tournament, or just scrap it completely, the better.

I thought it was a pity the coverage stopped before the post-match celebrations. Watching it via the red button, though, the ceremony made end of series cricket ceremonies seem fast-paced. Mo getting a MOM award? Some opposing player getting, god knows, a silver version? The other two teams getting...stuff? FIFA sure know how to drain the fun from these events.

I had to put my kid to bed, and left it on iPlayer. 4 stories and 4 escape attempts later, and I assume its all over. Instead I come back to Monterrey getting medals! I thought I had the wrong video.

You missed the refs & other officials all getting awards, &, even more bizarrely, posing for a victory photo with them afterwards.

Never seen anything like it in any sport, ever.

An award for the best Muslim player. You couldn't make it up.

Imagine the PL doing an award for the best Christian player.

Ah but Mo is an Arab too and had his own fan club there !
When did the Egyptians become Arabs? When they became Muslim? Surely Egypt is the oldest country on earth?

Genuine question, I'm not being arsey. I know it's hard to tell.

As far as I understand, Ancient Egyptians are different from today's ... and today's are part of the 'Arab nation'.
(I don't know if you're being arsey, so I answered as if you're not)

No arseyness here.

Interesting. I went through a period of fascination with the ancient Egyptians when I was a kid. There's an Egyptian mummy in the Ulster museum, her hair reminds me of a woman we know...

I had to look it up too ! However the official title of Egypt is : Arab Republic of Egypt.

Arab Egypt may refer to. Egypt after the Arab conquest of AD 639.

Out of interest MotM ratings across different media outlets:

The Arabs conquered Egypt in 645 AD and remained in control for the next 600 years.
