It was a great win by great players and great people. Well deserved. The league cup, when we won the treble, was a proper first XI competition that was often really tough from start to finish, so when pundits belittle that achievement they're just being bitter idiots. The sooner they make the current league cup into a lower league tournament, or just scrap it completely, the better.

I thought it was a pity the coverage stopped before the post-match celebrations. Watching it via the red button, though, the ceremony made end of series cricket ceremonies seem fast-paced. Mo getting a MOM award? Some opposing player getting, god knows, a silver version? The other two teams getting...stuff? FIFA sure know how to drain the fun from these events.

I can’t think of any manager in modern history who would pose like that. Most of them take themselves far too seriously.

Reading loads of nobheads on twitter saying it means fuck all.

That trophy clearly means the world (pun intended) to those players right there, & lends itself to this trend of constant winning. It now feels like we're picking up a trophy every few months.

That belief, that 'winning habit' is exactly what a club needs to become successful over a long period.
Imagine if we'd won the Charity Shield penalty shootout. Then the PL. Then the FAC. Then the CL. A Sixfer. Heads would be exploding all over the place. We'll have to settle for five now.

*such a lovely dream

I know this trophy traditionally hasn't been valued much in English football and I missed most of the match due to dodgy streams and it being moving day for us to a new house...

... but I got a stream back up around the 90th minute and I'll tell you I screamed every bit as loud when Bobby tucked it away as I did when Fabs belted the opener against City recently. And knowing Hendo was lifting that trophy put a permasmile on my face all bloody day yesterday.

This was a great and very welcome accomplishment. World fucking Champions.

I think they were the gold and silver versions prestigious Alibaba cloud award

my manc mates don't get why the English made such a big deal about this ... he brings up that they won a similar trophy in 2008?
I told him - think champions league the first decade. No one cared and gave the fascist cunts in Madrid a head start.

It was awful, not to mention Mo got two seperate motm awards or maybe one was player of the tournament and the silver version was runner up which makes a little more sense except Mo should have been nowhere near first

Good to see the players so genuinely happy to win a trophy though. It meant something to them.

I suspect being a Muslim helped.

😉

Actually - if we are honest with regards to Mo getting that award, I think it is safe to say he did a few memorable nice moves in the first game which will remain in peoples memories, where as there was nothing special done by anyone in that second game that is that memorable. That is why Mo got that award however undeserved it may seem.

actually I remember watching the first time they were involved in this club cup competition after their first CL win (2000 FIFA World Club Cup Competition), it was televised LIVE on TV (their games anyway), they lost their game as I remember it to Vasco Da Gamma. In those days there was some balance between South American Quality vs European Quality. That competition the final was played out by two teams from Brazil, so the format was obviously different back then, as the tournament had from Europe both Real Madrid, and Man United and there was two groups.
