Liverpool v Cardiff City Match Thread

I'd argue that we might not even need one. We've got Henderson, Fabinho, Gini, Milner, Keita, Shaqiri and AOC for three positions. I suppose in the long haul Milner will move to Leeds possibly and AOC might not return as the same player, but right now we've got good cover for the midfield three. Another wide attacker would be good, that's where we are really probably lacking now, there and cover for Robertson, given Moreno is garbage.

True. With our current midfield options and potential ones in Jones, Wilson, even Ejaria and Grujic, means we can go out and splash the cash on that wide player to supplement/challenge the front three. Think Adam Lewis is the replacement for Moreno as cover, given the recent coverage and noises from the academy on him.

For the record all I was saying is that SINCE Lallana was at all influential for us we have signed Mane, Salah, Fabinho, Shaqiri and Keita
Couple that with the VAST improvement in Wijnaldum and the blistering form of Milner the last 18 months and he looks a player left behind.

If you read my posts about Lallana the past 10 years you will know I am a massive fan.

Fair enough, others have seemed content to rewrite history though x

Lallana is a decent player at best, he needs to fuck off somewhere else and be that player. We have a situation now where players run and this guy is left behind flicking it between his own two fucking feet. Numerous times today he slowed the play down with his (look at me bulshit), we were diabolical until he went off. Can't fucking stand him . Good riddance.

Yes, you were. Lallana's put in plenty of good performances in his time at LFC, not that you'd ever have noticed. Now that he's older and just coming off an injury, you show up like some vulture hopping around a corpse squawking "YOU SEE, I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG". Obsession, thy name is Modo.

Now I show up? Are you having a laugh?

Ah - Lallana, I hate saying this - but I actually believe the guy is bad luck for our team. I think he is talented but talented in a Pogba kind of way but lesser. By that I mean he is great for the training ground - not good enough for production level footy that is required of him in actual PL games.

In truth whatever great performances people remember of him - are actually those gut busting runs - and the odd occasional pirouette signature move. They have been very few in succession - and usually too much of that from him in one game means he cannot play the next - why is that ? - simple answer is he is not suited to this Klopp team for more than three games at a time. People on here never seem to remember those numerous times he has lost the ball in possession in key areas - he is just not strong enough - everything he does is laboured and in my view he has done FUCK ALL in his time at Liverpool to justify half of the price we paid for him.

I also think he is one of those that becomes the teacher's pet by showing lots of running effort with eventual no end product when it matters. I actually thought him coming on in the European Cup Final was a bad omen in it's own right which basically meant we would lose the game regardless of what Karius did in the end. If we sold him without getting a replacement I would be more than happy and believe it would better for Klopp NOT to have him as an option for any of our other midfielders. I would rather we played an academy or reserve player than him.

And that is exactly why you are not the manager. Thank God for that !

Unfortunately the managers we have had over the last 25 odd years seem to put faith in players who actually don't deserve it and are curse upon them to such an extent that the manager never reaches his full potential. Lallana has the same effect on Klopp as "Bolo" Zenden did on Benitez. and probably Cheyrou on GH.

Lallana isn’t even second choice right now. He’s a squad player that occasionally gets game time. You don’t half talk bollocks.

Until Lallana learn to make one touch passes into good positions of other players, I am afraid his game of holding and taking people on is no longer effective and he is slowing our system and game plan. His shooting accuracy is gone too. What is he good for? Maybe a last 10 minutes substitute when the game is all but won?

Surely Harry Wilson would offer more to the squad than Lallana? Especially in that wide right position in this 4-2-3-1.
Are you sayin ‘surely’, having seen Wilson play? Because Lallana has had a shit ton of games where he’s performed at high levels in the PL. how many great games has Wilson had against top opposition? How much of his play have you watched apart from his YouTube free kicks?

If Lallana’s replaced, I’d rather we go for a Fekir style signing. Wilson can work his way up if he’s good enough.

No junior...most things i talk about are mostly true. I would rather Klopp did not even have a Lallana option. Has this guy ever in his time at LFC come on as a sub and made a huge impact or save us from losing ? Before you start on Norwich...just remember he was probably one of the mids that kept losing the ball that contributed to us conceding goals.

I already think we did replace Lallana. Yes, I actually think Shaqiri is his replacement.
We're a fit Ox away from having a complete squad.

Err.. Cheyrou barely played under GH, Lallana was one of Klopps best performers a couple of seasons back.

As a self professed Lallana hater, even I think you're being too harsh. Lallana has had some decent games, even as a sub. My issue with him has mainly been his consistency, but also the fact that I always thought he was slow and weak. He's been like a diet Luis Garcia and little Luis did get on our nerves a bunch of times, but he managed to balance it out with worldies and MOM performances when it mattered. That just it, I believe that we haven't been able to count on Lallana when it mattered.

The thing with Lallana is he needs to be absolutely fully fit and full of confidence to perform well and contribute enough whereas the other players he's competing against in the squad can have an off day and still bring more to the table. Shaquiri has better vision and is a goal threat as well as working hard now and Oxlade Chamberlain is faster stronger and a much bigger goal threat.
Lallana looked good in a much worse team and squad a couple of years ago but I think the level in the squad now is too high for him.

The way this side is playing now doesn't really suit him coming back from injury, because he was far too ponderous in possession. Also the anfield groan has started whenever he gets the ball and takes a few touches, and that's not easy to deal with. But he's a good player, and deserves to be given a little time.

Up until last season, Lallana was a boss option for us bringing work rate, energy, flair and trickery in key areas. And then we stumbled upon our ability to create or close down space with intelligent speed, and counter attack like lightening.
This makes it all too apparent that he takes 3 touches too many every time, slowing down our play. And his work rate lacks intellect, exactly the kind of player Klopp might have been talking about early doors in his tenure when he talked about the philosophy of counter press vs run like fuck all over the pitch all of the time.
No longer for me, 5th choice bench option at best.
