...And now the Iraqgoals stream has died. I might just not bother with the second half. If we carry on at this rate our defeats will spell out F-A-C-T-S B-E-N-I-T-E-Z

We need a new CB. That first goal was the last straw for me.
[/quote]
Bollocks.

We just need to field the same two CBs for at least two games in a row.

We look completely lost for communication and confidence in the back. No wonder why a young player like Insua obviously suffers as well back there.

It's a shambles. But not because our defenders has suddenly turned all bad.

We are going to win this. WE ARE GOING TO WIN THIS!

Anyone who thinks he can 'rely' on players like Insewer, Lucarse, Voronin, Eggnog, skittles and Casper does not deserve luck, because those players are at best inconsistent or average, and at worst, a fucking travesty in a red shirt

And as a Kuyt fan, it gives me no pleasure to say that he has been largely poor in the last month or two

Too many shit players

One man's fault

Skrtel should have had the man, but it's symptomatic of our defending from setpieces, no matter who plays, the players are too static in the box and ALWAYS get caught under the ball, so who ever comes in attacking it is on to a winner.

Yup. Teams are actually lobbing the ball into our box these days, knowing that there's every chance we won't deal with it. Situations like today's should be bread and butter for defenders.

We need a Sami clone. Someone big and dominant in the air (not the Greek).

Hangeland

He'd definitely be an option, yeah. Expensive though I suspect.

Good player, but he's getting on a bit.

Well, it's shit luck that all our best players are out or not 100%, and some of the other shit we've seen is shit luck as well.

Some of the strength in depth issues, as well as our inability to defend set pieces, is wholly down to Benitez.

It's not one thing or the other.

Yah, he's been terrible with 'em and I'd rather he says we'd lose tbh.

Quick first half thoughts;

1) We may actually have a future striker on our hands; he's certainly far from good enough to take us to the title but its early days and he can make things happen.

2) Mascher has been working on his shooting cause a couple of efforts there were genuine goal threats.

3) Riera, while I still maintain is not the player we need out wide, helped give us balance and control in the game.

4) Felt the goosebumps on my neck when Stevie came on; not sure if was simply because he was coming on or because the idea he could be injured here has me feeling nauseus.

5) Lucas has been spreading the ball well, has actually dispossesed opponents with strength, moved quickly and crisp passing.

6) Johnson has been as penetrating down the right as any player in a red shirt during the last 10 years.

7) We should be several goals up by now but the reality is we don't have a lethal edge about us. Lucas, Riera, Mascher, Yossi all dominated this match with plenty of margin to spare but none of them have that "inevitable goal scorer" edge about them. Lucas, in particular, should have scored but struck the shot low rather than hitting it in the roof of the net.

8) Our defence does not have the dominance in the air that we've enjoyed for so many seasons. If the ball gets hooked in, lobbed in, passed in, headed in or dropped in to the penalty area its a 50/50 who is going to get on the end of it. That hasn't been the case for a decade and we don't seem to know how to overcome it.

Too much in-fighting and bullshit here for now.

Laters.

Haha, if we don't do what I hope we do, it'll have to be much later if you want to avoid bullshit and in-fighting.

Don't know about tonight. Think we'll probably pull it back to at least a point, but -

We are going to get our players fit and become a top side. It's going to get better.

To be fair, I don't think Brendan's too far off. Whilst I don't think the players he's mentioned are as bad as he's sad they are, it's true that you can't rely on players of this standard and expect to be anywhere near challenging for the league.

Why can't we beat Birmingham!? I know they're supposed to be a bogey team for us and all that.. but this is ridiculous.. they're an average bunch of workers.

Nothing less than a win here is acceptable.

Lack of strength in depth could be because of untimely injuries, lack of funds and plausible transfer targets. Set piece defense could be player ability. The team as a whole share the responsibility.

2nd half up. COME ON YOU REDS!

We're off again

Formation is 4-2-3-1 with Flossy left and Gerrard centre - Kuyt out to the right
