Liverpool set sights on Town star

Javier Pastore as Gene mentioned would be an absolutely dream-signing for us. Even more so than say Aguero I'm positive.

Every time (not that many to be honest) I've seen him play I've been of the opinion that he's exactly the type of player we should be looking at.

Classy, techincal, direct, goal-scoring attacking midfielder capable of playing out wide too. Him and Gerrard and Raul in our central midfield would have the potential to be storming.

He'll not come cheap but with the new owners and potentially freed cash for spending (for the first time in three transfer windows) he should be right upthere on top of the list come January.

Alongside perhaps winger Afellay who'll come cheap after his contract-negotiations with PSV apparently has broken down and a solid striker. I personally wouldn't mind a type like Kerzhakov. Otherwise a cheeky bet on Dame N'Doye (should FC Copenhagen not progress to the later stages of the Champions League) wouldn't be to shabby.

Haven't we been linked with Kerzhakov?

Yeah and Afellay too. But mainly because he said so himself that he would love to play for us (or Man U).

He's a pacy, skilled winger with a decent eye for goal. As someone's already said elsewhere kind of what we all hoped Babel to be. Better technique though on Ibrahim.

i'm guessing you're nominating them as exceptions to the pattern of successful expensive, hyped, young british signings? if so, i'd say:

carson: wasn't expensive.

young: surely looks like a good signing, if not quite top class.

pennant: was only 15 - therefore surely more risky.

he was nowhere near a prodigy when he signed for arsenal. ok player, decent potential, but there was no big clamour to sign him - and he wasn't even that young.

actually, just checked his stats on wiki - he's scored 34 goals in his entire career, and 16 since he signed for arsenal in 2001! unbelievably bad.

Ashley Young? Are you taking the piss?

He cost Villa £9m, which many people thought was over the top. But he would easily fetch double that amount now.

There must be some good examples of flops within Peter's category, but I can't think of any, and Ashley Young certainly isn't one.

Even the likes of Jermaine Jenas and Kieron Dyer, neither of whom I really rate, ended up playing for England and being sold for as much or more than they were bought for.
