Liverpool have entered discussions over the transfer of Brazil international Luan. The Gremio forward has captured the attention of several English Premier League clubs, and is understood to have a release clause of €18million in his contract with the South American champions.

Luan scored eight goals in 12 appearances as Gremio won the 2017 Copa Libertadores and the 24-year-old was named player of the tournament.

Capable of playing as a central striker, but normally deployed in the second line of attack, he made his full international debut last January and was recently voted South American Player of the Year.

Liverpool have had significant success recruiting, then selling on, South American forwards during Fenway Sports Group ownership of the club, seeing first Luis Suarez then Philippe Coutinho establish themselves as the club’s best footballer before taking club record transfer fees from Barcelona for both.

Their current first-choice centre forward, Roberto Firmino, is also Brazilian, though like Suarez and Coutinho he was recruited from a leading European club rather than being taken direct from his home country.

Luan signed an improved three-year contract with Gremio at the beginning of November ahead of the Porto Alegre side’s narrow 1-0 FIFA Club World Cup Final loss to Real Madrid. “Luan said he was ready to renew and would never leave without a favourable renewal of his situation,” said Gremio president Romildo Bolzan.

“He has now kept his word. In addition, it demonstrates that we are willing to keep our players and our important values, especially those formed at home.

“This shows how important our youth policy, technical policy and sports policy is in making Gremio increasingly competitive. We will celebrate this moment.”

Liverpool have an agreement in place with Thomas Lemar to join the club having courted the France winger for much of last year, but have refused to meet AS Monaco’s asking price of at least €100m.

They also hold a strong interest in Christian Pulisic, the teenage United States forward who Jurgen Klopp promoted to Borussia Dortmund’s first-team squad as a 16-year-old.

The Bundesliga side do not want to sell in the current transfer window and are expected to demand a high fee for Pulisic in the summer.

At least his price is bucking the trend. He was supposed to be worth 30m a couple of years ago:

The Reds, along with rivals Manchester United, have both been linked with a move for the young Brazilian in recent months.

But according to Brazilian radio station Futebol da Gaucha, Liverpool have made the first move with a £30m offer.

Gremio vice-president Alberto Guerra said last week the club would consider offers should they come in.

This cunt gave up football to play futsal in his early years for 8 years

So he will have great technical ability I suppose..

Echo have ran with the story this morning.. with a paragraph at the end saying its horse shit..

Its from Duncan Castles. Its a big pile of steaming shit of a «rumour».
In other words, just bullshit.

Every other media is now jumping on the bandwagon for Castles later comment, a deal has been agreed with Lemar to bring him to Anfield in January

It's not exactly a surprise though. It's how we do all deals - agree with player first, then negotiate with club.

Folks let's be positive about this.

At least Red Ninja's starting threads about stupid rumours from sources other than Twitter.

@RedNinja ... lots of people here say you posting fake news. Dont know your history that well on 6CM but be honest ... how often is your reporting correct ?

Oh gawd, Tim Vickery (South American footie correspondent) has just described the player as 'quite reminiscent of Nigel Clough,' except that he's also a real party animal. Sounds, er, ideal.
I'll take that with a pinch of salt

His Lucas description was a wonder

Given how we all remember his gloriously inaccurate scouting report of Lucas*, which seemed to not only get his playing style and technical attributes wrong, but also appeared to be describing an entirely different person physically, I'm not sure what to make of this.

Except he sounds shit on a cosmic scale.

*"He’s an exciting player of the type that Brazilian football hasn’t produced too many of recently. Lucas is different. He's a big, blonde figure whose power and physical strength comes with attacking ability. He can pass well and loves to rumble forward. He gets on the scoresheet both with blistering shots from range and from bursting beyond the strikers."

Which is still one of the all-time greatest, most wrong things ever written about a footballer, ever.

Maybe Everton used him to scout Koldrup?
