Liverpool look to pull Rabiot out of a hat

Liverpool have made contact with the mother and agent of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot, sources have told ESPN FC.
The Premier League side are very keen on Rabiot, especially if they can sign him on a free transfer.
Jurgen Klopp is a long-time admirer of Rabiot and tried to sign him when he was Borussia Dortmund coach.
Klopp has followed Rabiot's progress very closely with another source telling ESPN FC the pair have already spoken on the phone to discuss a move.

The 23-year-old is in the final year of his contract in Paris and has, for the moment, rejected all the offers of a new deal from the club who are still hoping to convince Rabiot to pen a new contract.

Rabiot was linked heavily with Barcelona over the summer but PSG refused to sell him. However, from January, he will able to sign on a free for another club for next season and is likely to be in demand.

Liverpool know they will face tough competition, with Barcelona going back for the player too, but Rabiot has never hidden his attraction to Liverpool. Last October, in an interview with French radio station RMC, Rabiot said that he grew up loving Liverpool.

"I would love to play in the Premier League, not necessarily one club in particular, even though I was very fond of Liverpool when I was young," he said.

He's been to Anfield recently too. Can't remember if it was the city or Roma champions league game.

Isn't he meant to be a dickhead though? Can't see him as buying into Klopp's lovey-dovey team ethic.

He pissed off the Parisiennes with his tweet adoring the Kop during the Champs League.

As an addendum it's worth noting that this is coming from Julien Laurens who has very good ties with PSG, so this isn't likely to be bullshit.

I'm sure we'll tap the shit out of him when we play PSG in the CL group stages.

That sounds bad actually.

I've only seen him play once or twice, and I couldn't see much of interest; he was a bit like a cut-price Xabi Alonso, but less physical and a "tidy" passer at best. He's performed well in the best team in a shit league, where Bakayoko looked brilliant.

He wouldn't get into our midfield over James Milner.

That's exciting. He could become a great #8 type here under Klopp's tutelage. I posted some quotes about his mother before – I guess they are still not convinced by the way PSG are treating him if they are so close to running down the contract and now taking Klopp's calls. Whatever the reservations about his attitude, there is no doubt he's a world-class talent and getting him on a free would be like they say a "no-brainer."

It's a miracle we haven't run Milner into the ground already, but we can't be too far off the point where his abnormally high energy levels are utterly spent and he falls. Then we'll need someone to take his place.

Hmmm, it is youtube, but plenty in there to suggest he's a player.

Could be a raise my wage move, though...
Could be, but he does appear to genuinely have a big soft spot for us. He does have the hint of an odd, couldn't give a fuck what people think, Gallic footy romantic. Like Cantona.

I don't think even Iniesta or Zidane could shift Milner on current form 🙂 Seriously though, with all the enormous respect I have for Milner, Rabiot's ceiling as a player is quite a bit higher. He just needs a right set-up and right coach to make use of his talents. He is a true #8 in that he can play anywhere from DM to AM and his combination of guile, technique and athleticism is very special. A midfield of Fabinho, Rabiot and Keita would be incredible.

He has a soft spot for Stevie. Might join Rangers.
