Kenny confirmed he's spoken to Cliftonville about Rory Donnelly: "I spoke to the chairman, it was nice of him to tell everybody!"

HAHAHAHAHA.

Kiddie should go Swansea where he will play.

We can sign him for 17m in a year and a half.

He was an unused sub tonight with 7 clubs there watching him ;D

Just as a by the way, Cliftonville had a similar situation to this last season with Liam Boyce. Lots of big clubs interested in him before he finally went to Werder Bremen. Didn't make the cut and has just signed for Brentford. Players from over here are at a massive disadvantage going abroad/over the water because of the massive gap in quality between our league and the rest.

Cliftonville expect the future of striker Rory Donnelly to be sorted out by Friday with Swansea, Liverpool and Everton all hoping to sign the player.

The Irish League club has accepted an offer of around £100,000 from Swansea while the player also held talks with Liverpool on Tuesday.

Cliftonville chairman Gerard Lawlor said that the club had received offers from "Swansea and two other clubs".

These are understood to be Liverpool and Everton.

"It's now up to Rory and his representative to make the decision about which club he is going to," added Lawlor after Cliftonville's victory over Donegal Celtic on Wednesday night when Donnelly was an unused substitute.

"We expect it to be resolved before Friday."

Arsenal representative Steve Morrow attended Wednesday's Carling Premiership game with a view to seeing Donnelly in action but the striker did not come off the bench.

A scout from Leicester was also present
at the match in the hope of seeing Donnelly play.

Liverpool manager Dalglish contacted the the Irish League club on Sunday to register his interest in the prolific 19-year-old.

"We've registered our interest, that's as far as it goes," Dalglish said.

The Belfast club want Donnelly's future to be finalised before Christmas.

Donnelly has already met with Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers and Everton manager David Moyes.

Rodgers said on Monday that he was confident of signing the Northern Ireland Under-21 international.

The forward has scored 17 goals this season, several of them spectacular, leading to interest from several clubs.

This.

Probably the best team in Ireland at the moment, north or south, is Shamrock Rovers. They caused a sensation this season by qualifying for the group stages of the Europa League. Unfortunately they finished pointless at the bottom of their group. It takes an exceptional talent to make the progression from here to the premiership.

But maybe Rory is an exceptional talent. I dont know.

Everton are the favourites now, apparently.

He'll have the least competition for a role upfront at Everton. Perhaps the success of Seamus Coleman might sway his mind.

He can't be any good, he hasn't declared for the Republic yet.

Oh I'm sure he will, sadly.

If he's good enough to play international I'd put my left bollock on the line to say he will go for Republic.

Things have got to a sad state where the majority of Catholic players from Northern Ireland who reach that standard, or look like reaching it, are being persuaded to declare for the Republic, which, since the Good Friday Agreement, they have a right to do. The sad thing is that just as Northern Ireland has got a firm grip on the sectarian element in its international support, soon the Northern Ireland team will end up being 100% protestant.

I believe the South still accept anyone born in NI as 'Irish' and being Catholic isn't the critera required for playing for the South, just being born in the country.

[/quote] We have talked about this before Doc.
While it may be good for Rep of Ireland football it is more than likely being particularly damaging for the Northern Ireland team.
I am surprised that pressure isn't brought to bear at a political level to end the practice because it could have implications beyond football.

There's some great ideas in here Brad, and I think it is disappointing that some key changes suggested haven't yet been implemented (like finding an inclusive replacement for God Save the Queen as anthem. No doubt we've come a massive way thanks to bods like this guy.

Yo, Doctor_mac, here's some academic jazz for you:

(I haven't read any of it so no idea what it's about, all I know is my wife works with this feller from time to time and mentioned the proactive work he has been doing the IFA. Feel free to read this and report back with your findings)

Yeah mate, I agree. However there needs to be the political will to amend this, and given the fractious nature of politics north of the border I don't think they could agree to an amendment even if the govt. in the Republic were prepared to do so. I think the only thing the IFA can do is continue to work with catholic kids and their families, and hope that some will make the decision to play for the north when the time comes.
