H&G's lawsuit has been dropped according to a Texas lawyer. Just on SSN.

Not read it elsewhere yet.

BBC have a little vid of Kobe Bryant giving predictions for this weekend (bit random) and he says when it comes to Liverpool that he absolutely loved 'em growing up. Another celebrity fan?

REVEALED: Hicks and Gillett ‘face uphill struggle’ in any Liverpool compensation claim

By Nick Harris
15 October 2010
With the sale of Liverpool to NESV complete and John W Henry, one of the world’s leading sports tycoons, promising ahead of this weekend’s Merseyside derby to restore the club to its former glories, sportingintelligence can reveal Tom Hicks and George Gillett’s legal battle for $1.6bn compensation is likely to be undermined by the fact they were given details in the last 48 hours about how to repay their debt to RBS bank – and made no move to repay the cash.
This website can reveal that Hicks and Gillett (or rather their representatives) made contact with RBS asking for specific details about how to transfer funds to repay debts of around £200m to RBS, upon the payment of which they could have laid claim to the club again, in theory. Those details were provided, opening a window for Hicks to make a payment, albeit with a proviso from RBS that Hicks should inform the Liverpool board of the source of the funds before making any payment.
No payment was forthcoming. They had a theoretical chance to pay the money, including details of where it should go, but no money was transferred.
The legal battles of the last 24 hours unfolded instead and NESV completed their takeover.
Andrew Nixon, a partner with leading lawyers Thomas Eggar and a contributing columnist to the regular The Sports Lawyer feature on this website, has separately asserted today that Hicks and Gillett will struggle in any compensation battle, a view likely to soothe some concerns that Liverpool will be mired in legal battles with Hicks and Gillett for years to come.
“Whilst the threat of separate proceedings remains an issue that Liverpool Football Club may ultimately have to deal with head on, it seems clear that they will have a strong defence to any claim,†Nixon says. “Hicks and Gillett will inevitably seek to argue that the board, namely Martin Broughton, Christian Purslow and Ian Ayre, sold the football club at an undervalue.
“This argument is unlikely to carry much weight, as it seems clear that the Liverpool board undertook all necessary due diligence in relation to the NESV deal, and followed the correct legal processes in agreeing the final figure. Indeed, Mr Justice Floyd himself endorsed the approach of the board in his judgement on Wednesday.
“Equally, it remains unclear how Hicks and Gillett might seek to quantify damages in the region of £1billion, particularly when it is taken into account that the apparent offer of Mr Lin was only £20m more than the NESV deal.â€
RBS have released a statement saying: “RBS is pleased the sale of LFC to NESV has been completed and are confident this will provide the foundation for the Club and its fans to enjoy renewed success on and off the pitch.
“RBS is aware of reports that Mr Hicks and Mr Gillett may intend to pursue further litigation in relation to the sale of Liverpool F.C. The English Courts have described claims made to date as ‘not realistic and abusive’. Any further claims aginst RBS will be vigorously opposed.â€

Re: LFC SOLD to NESV! (We know this as the fat man's been stung)

Broughton on takeover

Martin Broughton has revealed his delight after it was announced that NESV have completed the purchase of Liverpool Football Club.

In an exclusive interview with Liverpoolfc.tv, the Chairman explains how he was always confident a deal would be completed and why he feels the new owners are the right choice to take the Reds forward.

How pleased are you that the sale to NESV has finally been completed?

I'm delighted because I am convinced they are the right owners, exactly the sort of thing that we were looking for.

How would you describe the events of the past few days?

They have been pretty stressful. I thought that we were there and completed a few days ago and each day it's been dragged out, so it's been pretty stressful.

You told supporters every day to keep the faith - but did you ever doubt this would happen?

No, not really. I said 'keep the faith'. I had the faith. I was quite clear in my mind that we were doing the right thing, and I was quite clear that justice was on our side and that we would work our way through it. I have to say I had a terrific team of people around me. They helped us get there.

As Chairman of the Board, how much would you like to thank everybody who has worked tirelessly - board members, lawyers, solicitors - to ensure we got the right result?

We have had an incredible team and they've all done a great job. I'm going to add to that - I want to thank the fans as well. This has been as stressful for them as it has been for us. I fully sympathise with their anxieties and the nerve-wracking nature of that. I thank them for keeping the faith.

What does this deal mean for the future of Liverpool Football Club?

It sets us up. We have owners now who understand about winning, are dedicated to winning, have put the club on a sound financial footing, are willing to back the club to get back to being one of the, preferably THE, top teams.

Why did NESV ultimately win the backing of the majority of the Board?

Well to be fair we were in the privileged position at the end of an exhaustive process which we thought unlikely at times to have two very good bidders, and it was a close call. They brought very different things to the party, but for me NESV bring the passion, the experience, the understanding of sport and the passion of fans and the need to think about how the fans as stakeholders fit into the whole thing. It is a business but it's not just a business and they understand that the emotional side of the fans and that's what sets them apart.

How confident are you that NESV are the right people to take this club forward?

I'm very confident and the reaction from the fans is we've been bitten once and we don't want to get too excited. That's quite right. Watch what they do rather than what they say and I think you'll be very impressed with what they do. I am convinced that having seen what they have done at Boston, they will do the right thing. Be patient, be supportive, shout them on, watch what they do and you'll be fine.

What does the Liverpool future hold for Martin Broughton?

For me this is job done. I came here with a specific remit to sell the club, to find the right buyers for the club. I've found the right buyers for the club. I'll stay for the transition to get everything set up and smoothly passed on, and then it's job done.

Was this sale process a much bigger challenge than you ever imagined it would be?

It was a bigger challenge. I thought it was going to be a challenge but I did think we were going to have more bidders at the table. We had quite a lot of potential bidders en route, but I thought we'd have more bidders at the table sooner. It's been tougher. I never wanted to be in the position we finished up with a fight on our hands, it would have been good to have something that satisfied everybody, so it has been tougher. But in the end it's been worth it.

We know you're a Chelsea fan, but will Liverpool always have a place in your heart now after this process?

Absolutely. It's a terrific club, it's a fantastic group of people, fantastic fans, the atmosphere will be electric again now and I'll look forward to coming back to Liverpool on a frequent basis and after Chelsea's result, it will always be the result I look out for.

Appropriate picture that is.

But it is also an example of truly shocking parenting. There is no way a kid that young could be allowed to express that kind of hate.
