This is complete and utter irrational tripe. Give it a fucking rest.

No it isn't.

So "no debt" is directly equivalent to "staggering levels of leverage against assets and future earnings"? Errrrr, no it isnt. Therefore youre talking bollocks.
The debt is going to re-appear sooner or later, they didn't "swallow it" because they're nice guys.

They did so to gain control of the club. Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Are you actually even clear what you are bleating on about, or are you simply locked into a Daily Mail-style "right to reply"?

The debt disappears as part of the purchase price - there is no reason why is should reappear (Glazer-like) to the club - rather, the investors here would work on the basis that they more than cover this (several times over) when they sell.

You are losing the plot mate.

It's being said on SSN that the only option Hicks now has, is to find a new partner and come up with £230-£280mil by deadline time. Surely he would of done this by now if thats what he was intending to do?

Good then Bad. If things get messy.Which they nearly always do for us.

Broughton mentioned that it will be work capital debt placed on the club and not debt due to the acquisition.

The previous owners proved that Liverpool is not profitable if it is used to secure any acquisition debt. It would be interesting to see how we can be successful in the short term and yet remain sustainable.

And when will they sell?

The only people losing the plot are those wanking like happy chimps after selling our club for a rock-bottom price to a bunch of hedge-fund, leveraged buy-out specialists-with-no-interest-in-football yank cunts, in order to save us from a bunch of hedge-fund, leveraged buy-out specialists-with-no-interest-in-football yank cunts

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

the way I see it, is bren's concerns are perfectly valid, absolutely, but what alternative do we have?

the board have insisted on a prerequisite of;
removing/reducing the debt
building the stadium
investing in the squad

do the board have the power to draw up legally binding contracts of the above?
once the clubs change hands do the new owners have to do any of the above?
genuine questions and genuine concerns, all I will say is goggling the new owners their past made a darn sight better reading than goggling hicks.
they can go back on what they say but I personally would rather take a chance on someone who 'MAY' do the above to someone who has NO INTENTION of doing the above. the current predicament of the club simply cannot be allowed to continue as we would go under sooner rather than later.

Of those names some of them ring bells, Larry Lucchino in particular is someone you want on board.

Re: John Henry bids for Liverpool FC

John Henry is a good owner. He won't cheat you on payroll and is a smart business man. If Larry Lucchino shows up, call up some hooligans and have him clobbered with blunt objects.

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

The only reason these other yanks want to buy us is to make some profit down the road. It gets us out of immediate danger and will get us some investment in the squad - but without the right manager that is pointless - and we'll probably be back where we started in a couple of years either way.

Fine, I'm being overly cynical here - I admit that. But I've earned the right to be cynical, by virtue of being a Liverpool fan over the last X years, and also being clever.

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

It comes down to do people trust Broughton?

He makes a valid point of things need to be done away from the media glare, but I would still like to know the details surrounding the Asian deal.

At the moment we have Broughtons words to go on, he was asked about the crippling debt and said that it would no longer be there. NESV do not have much debt as an organisation, though they do have debt to run the organisation (which is quite normal aparently).
Yes he will get a decent pay day from selling the club, but that shouldnt really come into play. We are just concerned with if he (and the other 2) made the right decision.

Where does it say that they are looking to sell us qucikly for a profit? That doesn't fit the profile of Henry as an owner or how they run the Red Sox at all.

Let's just get some more information, first before we jump back into jaded mode though. All going well, we could have got rid of those two for now. We've been bought for a song, by one of the World's biggest sports businesses. They manage clubs all the time. It's not like we're being sold to a non-sporting hedge funder.

I for one, am going to enjoy the prospect of G and H moving on for today at least...

League in support of Liverpool deal

here's more info - PL give their blessing...

Soccer: The Premier League gave Liverpool a huge boost with their takeover plans by the owners of the Boston Red Sox by saying they would be ready to give the deal the go-ahead as early as Friday.

League chiefs have been kept informed about the £300million (€343m) offer by New England Sports Ventures (NESV), principally owned by billionaire John W Henry.

Although a Singapore-based consortium is also interested, the American offer looks much more likely to succeed despite opposition from the Reds' current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

The Premier League said in a statement: "The board of the Premier League has been kept fully informed of developments regarding the potential sale of Liverpool FC by the chairman and senior executives of the club and has, accordingly, been made aware of a number of potential prospective owners in recent weeks.

"We can confirm that Liverpool FC has formally notified the Premier League of an intended change of control and that the board has undertaken to complete all the necessary processes by Friday, October 8th so that the sale of the club can proceed."

The Royal Bank of Scotland, owed £280million (€320m) by Hicks and Gillett, are trying to drive the deal through with the backing of Liverpool's independent chairman Martin Broughton.

If Hicks and Gillett block the takeover, then their holding company could be put into administration by RBS over their unpaid debts.

Premier League sources say that whether a points deduction would come into effect remains unclear but it is thought to be unlikely.

Liverpool would argue that under new Premier League rules regarding parent companies, if the club itself is a fully solvent entity - as Liverpool are - then the penalty clause should not apply.

A Premier League source said: "The aim of the regulations is primarily to capture clubs who have gone into insolvency."

For example, last year West Ham's Icelandic owners went into administration but that did not lead to any Premier League action as the club itself was solvent.

The interest of NESV in acquiring Liverpool has gathered pace over the last week. All prospective owners are obliged to give the league 10 days' notice of a takeover and prove they have the funds to sustain the club.

Not necessarily.....

If they've bought LFC for around 300 Million lock stock and barrell then realistically they really have saved themselves money.... They can then put the extra money which couldve been used to buy the club to better use....

At least thats how I hope decent owners would think....
