LFC SOLD to NESV.

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

Even if they wana sell on for a profit its not all bad news, it will mean they will have to sort the club out and make it a worthwhile purchase for someone coming in.

My impression is that Broughton would second that last bit, mate.

Yeah, definitely JJ. He talks a good game.

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

If everything works well after the sale is finalized, I wonder if Brendan will speak nicely about Purssslow and Broughton ...

To be fair this is what they do and what they were brought in to do, not to appoint managers or run the footballing side of the business, yes they did it eventually very, very well.

I thought that one of the problems we had with upgrading Anfield would be that there isn't the transport ifrastructure to cope with the extra fans trying to get into that part of town, surely this will still be the case?

Well we've all waited for long enough another fortnight isn't going to kill us.
According to Broughton it'll be sorted soon enough.
*crosses fingers*

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

If Broughton has agreed a sale without the following guarantees:

Stadium investment
Clear the debt
Guaranteed investment in players
Guarantee of a minimum fixed-term ownership of the club,

it would essentially mean he's gone back on every guarantee he made for the sale process, and instead sold a distressed asset to another bunch of leveraged buy-out, cash-poor Yank sharks who are only in it to sell that distressed asset for as much profit as possible, as quickly as possible.

Which would make him a lying cunt

Still, as long as the sale goes through, he gets paid, and given he's already back-tracking on the stadium issue, anyone with half a brain will be rightly terrified that we've been fucked over again.

You will have to wait a good few months for that mate, even if Red Sox man comes in we won't really know everything within a few days.
It will take a few months to understand what we are in for, I suppose the treatment of Roy and the Jan window will be the best indication.

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

I'm confused.

Can someone tell me if I should sing 'Yanks Out!' or 'Yanks In' ?

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

Just been listening to a Boston globe reporter on RTE speak in glowing terms about Henry. He reckons that Henry will not be content with just being a top four club, he will want league and CL trophies.

He also reckons that the Liverpool/Red Sox link will be a rival to the Manc/NY Yankees (which I didnt know about) link. Apparently the Sox and Yankees hate each other like us and the Mancs.

Bernie is saying that NESV may have just bought us at a deep discount with a view to sell us off closer to Par Value - sometime in the near future.

If that's the case, expect little real investment in the Club on players etc.
That doesn't make sense. If they've bought us at a deep discount, it's because we're underperforming. As long as that continues, they're not going to get "closer to par value" at any time, let alone in the near future, without real investment to get us motoring again.
they are going to sell us on.The twin towers were too greedy.

sell us on for a modest profit.

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

Even if your fears stated above are correct Bren, what other options did we have?

Asides from the lying cunt part - that's a pretty fair assessment (even if it is coming from a hyperbolic dude like Brendung).

And what if we can't tick all those boxes?

What other options do we have? Go into administration? Re-finance and stick with H&G? What's the alternative?

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

There is an alternative though, isn't there?

They said an Asian buyer was also waiting in case the NESV bid fell through.

but how can transport to anfield be a concern if it isn't to stanley park? whatever plans were in place for the new ground, just use those for an expansion of anfield.

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (New England Sports Ventures)

Do you *really* think Broughton gives a fuck about LFC?

It's too soon to say if we're just as fucked under the new Yanks as the old Yanks, but it wouldn't surprise me.

And I don't know the alternatives because Broughton won't fucking divulge them.

If they ever existed.

I find it depressing reading some of the optimistic fuckwittery in this thread

There is *nothing* to suggest we will be any better off in the long-term

I hope I'm wrong, but I fear the worst

Well, to answer your question, then, sir, what NESV has done for the Red Sox is restore one of the oldest and most historic franchises in the history of a baseball to a glory she had not seen in 86 years with a World Series win in 2004, and then did it again 3 years later in 2007. Before that the Red Sox hadn't won it all since 1917, we'd had good clubs but had never managed to seal the deal. We were a bit of a joke for that reason.

Not only that, but they're filling Fenway Park every night for most of their tenure, and the Red Sox have become a national and even (thanks in part to the signing of famous Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka) an international brand under their watch. So in terms of both prestige and on-field success the turnaround of the Red Sox has been remarkable under Henry's ownership. And if there's a bit of a black miasma hanging over your franchise that makes you feel defensive, not to worry, we had that too, not just Babe Ruth's "curse" but also the stench of racism from a generation ago, back when the Red Sox were among the last teams in baseball, possibly the very last of all, to integrate players of color

A decade ago the Red Sox were a midmarket franchise with a few talented players but nowhere near enough to make a run at anything meaningful more than once in awhile. Henry brought in Theo Epstein who brought the player development system up to date and in some senses beyond, was very aggressive in the draft and promoted existing prospects such as Kevin Youkilis who is now a key franchise player along with the players he himself has drafted and developed, such as Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester, Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury. These decisions were Epstein's, but the decision to hang the franchise on Epstein was Henry's, and it turned out to be a brilliant one. He hasn't exactly run the team with one hand on his wallet either, and team payroll has about trebled since he came on.

I would expect him to do the same or an appropriate equivalent for Liverpool FC, bring in the best British football mind he could find, and trust him to run the day-to-day operations, and do his work in the area of cleaning up the team's presentation and what it makes of itself to the world, if that makes any sense to you.

If he carries that emphasis into Liverpool, what you can expect to see him try to do is clean house, restore respectability, and try to build from the fundamentals of your sport, develop players while they're young and cheap, and base his decisions on the word of the best advisers and scouts he can find. It'll take him a little while to find his feet, but if he gets the team and finds a good head coach/GM/whatever you guys call the person who handles personnel decisions for a team, he'll do his part and you'll have yourself a good sports franchise.
