I honestly dunno, that's why I asked. No details were ever released on it (as far as I know), the only thing I ever remember hearing was that they were considering resurrecting/building a rail track dedicated to ferrying people in.

Well not being under H&G is already a good start

Whilst we do not know if the new owners will make us league champions again, if we had remained under H&G we would have faded into obscurity.

I believe our new owners would have studied the failed reign of H&G before buying us and had come up with a plan and analyzed if they had the resources to make us successful both on and off the pitch.

As such, I'm optimistic that these are the right owners after the H&G fiasco.

A lot will depend on whether they will invest in new players.

We should know pretty quickly if these guys are here for the long haul or in it for a quick buck. We're talking a minimum of 80m quid to overhaul our squad and possibly bringing in a new manager.


If no real 'vision' was presented to the Board (and we will never know) then it's likely they pushed through the sale simply to avoid the 9 point deduction.

We'd struggle to make the UEFA cup, never mind the CL with that kind of handicap.

i think the railway line option was part of the solution to going beyond the original plans to a capacity of 73,000 or so. as far as i know we already have total planning permission in place for a ground of 60,000, and that includes the implications for transport infrastructure.

the only issue i can think of might be that i think the new ground had approval for a new carpark, and obviously there'd be nowhere for that to go if we stayed at anfield, but i don't know how big a part of the solution that represented. tbh i'd have thought most of these isses could be dealt with by park-and-ride schemes on the outskirts of the city, but i'm not a town planner.

80mil is a fair effort, i dont expect them to spend that in january. 2 top class players would be fine. A striker and a winger.
Im optimistic but not getting fooled just yet. I was excited when the 1st yanks came in only to fucking hate them when they left. Im excited to give these guys a chance and hope they do well for our club.

I doubt anyone could be as bad as H & G

Some caution is of course warranted, but I'm afraid I don't get your stance,Bren.

You've painted the 3 of them as a bunch of stooges intent on ruining this club, that's clearly incorrect since the 3 of them have fought the 2 bastards, nearly at the cost of their jobs.

As for your other points about guaranteed investment in the stadium and players, and a minimum period of ownership, we would all like some of those uncertainties to be clarified.

But realistically, any potential buyer would rather wait until Hicks either refinanced (which would ruin the club) or defaulted (in which case we'd be seeing another sale at rock-bottom prices even lower than whats been accepted now)

Why should anyone make guarantees to a business concern that's over a barrel?

Not to put too fine a point on it, I doubt I'm the only one who realistically thought we'd be facing oblivion in 9 days.

this is great news. We all would have taken this a few days ago, should it go through..

Yes, we don't know about player investment (no way would a buyer fail to invest in such a precious asset), we know something will happen with the stadium, and the debt is gone (NO RBS takeover), it's all progress.

My only concern is we'd become a Villa or another mid table club that exists to make a profit every year instead of geniunely challenge for trophies - that the owner isn't in it, to win it.

What a deal though. Worldwide Football brand for 300M. United is valued at 1.2BN.

If we were in the CL, with no debt, you've got to think we'd be valued close to 700M - Hicks was right, we are worth that, but not if you've got concrete blocks around your neck.

Progress lads, not perfection, but PROGRESS. I feel in better form today - how sad is that. Goodbye gloom!

Noone knows what will happen with this new fella. The signs aren't there that he is going to be someone who can come in, throw millions upon millions into a new stadium and a new squad and buy us the league title next season. But was that likely to happen in the near future?

I do have concerns about how he plans to fund the purchase and how he will continue to fund the club, and that is why I am not jumping for joy.

However, the good news is that H&G will be gone. That was always first priority wasn't it?
If this guy is just in this to make money quickly then at least he is in a position where it seems like he has bought the club for less than it is worth so its less likely he will do a Hicks and demand a massive amount for years
