Let's talk about Coutinho

Henderson------------------------------------------------Lallana

Way too attacking, if youre going to have Lallana as part of a midfield 3 then you need an actual defensive midfield anchor, Gerrard is no longer able to cover enough ground to make that viable and he needs the other midfielders to do the legwork for him, Lallana isnt that guy

Coutinho was sensational in pre-season then simply fell away. His been poor in the last 2 games. Not sure what happened ............

Well for a start the quality of the opposition just took a massive jump with Schneiderlin and YaYa. Not every team will have players of that strength in midfield but it might be worth a look to see when, and against whom, his poor/best matches were.

Coutinho may get more space against Spur's midfield but otherwise I would not be at all surprised to see Jerry's line-up (and Marko replacing Lallana in that line-up if he's not fit to start). This would keep Walker pinned back too.

I do agree he's been largely shit in the first 2 games. However, he's only a kid and he's still finding himself. He'll be a valuable asset in the years to come if he's still with us.

I now have Salt-N-Pepa stuck in my head, by the way, because of the thread title.

Had one veeery good pass to Hendo and that was about it. Needs to step up.
Sounds like Henderson's contribution so far this season. One nice pass to Sterling.

Not going after Hendo, just thought I'd point this out. Obviously Coutinho loses possession more frequently.

Let's talk about Lallana replacing him.

Yep.
Cout is very talented, but is a luxury we seem to be struggling to afford on the pitch at the moment. We are desperately missing Suarez's industry and creativity at the moment, and he offers neither. It may just be a dip in form, in which case he needs to sort it and fast. Will he start on Sunday? I don't think so and hope not.

There's a Lidl (or Aldi) advert on Irish radio with the S&P song, only its "Lets talk about Six" ... so it is already in my head 24/7

He always has a cracker against Yaya Toure and gives him nightmares but looked out of sorts against Citeh in the Premiership. he was ace in the friendly.

Coutinho is still 22. Arguably better than Silva at the same age. His time will come. But it is too early to put him in the middle now.

This the price you pay for playing young players. They are inconsistent.

It's no real excuse though.
Coutinho has over 100 appearances to his name at Club level. Granted we can't expect him or any 22 year old to be the finished article, we can expect a little more consistently in his play.

I find him an extremely frustrating player. On his day he can rip teams apart with his skill, touches and vision...Everton and Arsenal at home last season being the prime examples.
On his off days, he's ill-disciplined, wasteful and generally a non-entity.
Is it acceptable to turn it on every 7 or 8 games though?? I think not.

Lets hope he can knock out some consistent performances because we'd have one of Europe's finest creative players if he did. Atm, he's all hype for me.

Based on the two games we have had this season - my conclusion is that too many of you over-rate him, and I think he is best when he comes on for the 2nd half and not necessarily starting games. So yeah shit Ryan - think he is too easily put out of the game.

I really like him, but another thing that pisses me off is how he reacts when being dispossessed. He knows other players have sprinted up the pitch to support him, yet he hardly ever sprints back to cover for the gaps that have inevitably appeared. He jogs back. That's pure indiscipline.
