I'd happily take being a plaything.

Let's face it, without the kind of money they could bring to finance the stadium in the first place, the sustainable business model is unattainable anyway
But given the choice of an Abu Dhabi plaything and us dissappearing into mediocrity I'd take the former. I don't want to - but it's the lesser of two evils.

Well yeah, same here. It's just a shame it's come to this.

Rumour that is doing the rounds is that it's Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Very wealthy indeed..

It's sadly to good to be true, although the positive thing is that it hasn't been mentioned in any press related articles yet.

Lucas Leiva, Liverpool's new Chief Executive, today announced the re-signing of Jermaine Pennant from Espanyol.

Director of Football, Momo Sossoko is said to have masterminded the deal after being impressed with the winger's ability to kick the ball straight up in the air for no reason during his last stay at the club.

Is it weird that even when we're at our lowest point for many a year, I still feel really reluctant about the prospect of Liverpool becoming another Abu Dhabi plaything?

It'd be different if they were fresh players and the Man City situation had never come about but as thing stand, it just feels a bit wrong.

I can see where you're coming from. Ideally we would have built our wealth in the traditional manner, years of dominance, huge fanbase etc would have cemented and secured our dominance. However, it's getting to the point of 'if you can't beat them, join them' and I'll gladly take anything that comes along.

I don't like the idea of being some oil barons plaything, but if that's the only way we can be salvaged then I'll jump on board.

Exactly, we deserve it Chelsea and City don't, hmmm a choice between all the Armageddon theories and this let me think...that didn't take long

Quite, old lad. Given the general depression that is part of being a Liverpool fan these days, I don't think we should get hung up on finding new owners who are not too rich.

If this is the case then it's time for the bank to pull the plug on these two utter pieces of shit.

I thought they had no say anymore?

I've not read the article by the way, just the link.
clearly they do, there's no way they'd surrender full control, Inc sale price to anyone. They'd be daft to do so.

The article states RBS will step in if it continues though.

Why would they want to? They're milking the interest, and they can make us sell players to get it. Is it in their interest to be rid of them?

Would RBS calling in the loans be good for the club?

I assume they would then take control over the club and sell for a more reasonable figure?

Which would mean potential new owners may as well wait, and the fans will suffer for another season.

Two things:

1 - I don't care about a sugar-daddy coming in for us... We're one of the biggest names in the world. We're bound to attract global interest. We may not be the Yankees or the Lakers of our industry (in terms of merchandising, etc) but we're very close... Like the Boston Red Sox or the Celtics.

2 - If Tom Hicks ever stands in front of me, he'll not have to worry much longer about how much LFC will go for...

It's all bluster if anyone put a half decent offer on the table and that is anywhere between over £450m Hicks would have it. He's not going to take the first offer that comes along and no one is going to pay the asking price, and he knows very well what it is worth.
It's just like buying a watch off the lucky lucky man, it's called negotiation.

I think the article is bollocks anywhoo. Barcap were supposedly employed by H&G to sell it on their behalf and have not been doing so for very long really, ergo they work for the yanks, so they are hardly likely to be slagging them off.
I still think Barcap were brought in to smooth the sale to the Arabs, and not by H&G.....time will tell
