If this is true.. and carragher is set to blooded through..

then the manager will be Harry Redknapp.
The Carragher stuff makes me believe it even less, to be honest. It sounds like the sort of "extra detail" added in to make it sound more credible, but has the opposite effect.
Aye, I thought that.

*deflates slightly*

Same goes for the "debt written off" bit
Same goes for virtually all of it, really.

Yeah, that whole email strikes me as desperately unconvincing.

Surely your mate wouldn't mind being distracted from the birth of his child for something as important as this?

The Carra bit probably is fluff, Chinese whispers, everyone adds their own little bit on.

As for the rest, it's not the first time we've been linked with these guys, which maybe suggests something is there, hence the story not going away. Aren't this guy and the City guy brother's in law? They're meant to be uber competitive with one another, they are with their horses and the second guy has been desperate to buy a club since the other one brought City, and Liverpool have always been his choice.

the debt written off doesn't sound credible at all, in some cases it actually makes sense to have 'some' debt on the club (not all of it like the fucking yanks) because otherwise the owners would just take that money anyway via dividens.

Another thing. Why would having Rafa sacked play a part in the deal? If he was still in place when they took over they would just sack him.

Ok Vantage, I'll stroke it - ONCE !
Once? Might as well not bother.

God, that would be fantastic!

Brendan, didn't you have a mate who worked for Barcap? This isn't the same one, I take it? Couldn't you check out this rumour with the Barcap mate? Surely he'd have heard something if there was any truth to it.

He's in Ireland having a baby, well, his wife is anyway. It's not from him. His "news" is always bloody depressing anyway.
And probably quite accurate tpoo?

So that the new owners first action isn't to sack a manager that a large section of fans still want?

I suggested as much when Rafa was sacked.

I just hope there's a semblance of truth in any of this.

Word for word what I just received from a fellow red about 5 minutes ago:

"Also, heard from a very good source within LFC that we'll sold in 5 weeks. Middle eastern - wouldn't say who but reading between the lines it is the half brother (and richer!) Of the dude who bought man city. Gerrard and torres know and that's why they have said to decide after WC. Getting rid of rafa was a condition of new investor. Interesting!"

Please post all other conjecture, rumour and gossip in this thread.

We need cheering up, so I've tried to start us off with soemthing amazingly positive. No idea who the "source within LFC" is.
I've heard the first bit this morning. Within 5 weeks, two investors are interested though, so I don't know how you can put a timescale on it(??), one is Chinese the other Middle Eastern.

And the source again was Barnes.

EDIT, funnily enough, this was heard in Ireland (Dublin) over the weekend.

Yea, the Carragher thing is ridiculous.

"We have one final condition for this 480 million transaction. Jamie Carragher must be given a coaching role at the club. Otherwise we will buy Rotherham".

;D ;D

As much as I would like to I don't believe this.
It just doesn't have the ring of plausibility.
Hopefully I am wrong.
Thanks for sharing it anyhow

Rumour that is doing the rounds is that it's Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Very wealthy indeed..

It's sadly to good to be true, although the positive thing is that it hasn't been mentioned in any press related articles yet.

Is it weird that even when we're at our lowest point for many a year, I still feel really reluctant about the prospect of Liverpool becoming another Abu Dhabi plaything?

It'd be different if they were fresh players and the Man City situation had never come about but as thing stand, it just feels a bit wrong.

I kinda agree with you Ken. If we start offering 250k a week to Kaka etc, then I'd get that feeling aswell.
Hopfully we'll be run with the prospect that an owner won't have to pump in ridiculous sums of money every season. At least thats what I'm hoping for when someone finally buys this club.

I can see where you're coming from. Ideally we would have built our wealth in the traditional manner, years of dominance, huge fanbase etc would have cemented and secured our dominance. However, it's getting to the point of 'if you can't beat them, join them' and I'll gladly take anything that comes along.

I don't like the idea of being some oil barons plaything, but if that's the only way we can be salvaged then I'll jump on board.

Yeh that's true. I wouldn't want that. Any success we achieved after that would be tainted slightly in my eyes. I'd still enjoy it, I suspect.

I agree with that Keni. I'd much prefer a sustainable business model like Arsenals. But given the choice of an Abu Dhabi plaything and us dissappearing into mediocrity I'd take the former. I don't want to - but it's the lesser of two evils.
