RM done all the pushing. Scum playing their usual counter-attack European football with Rooney peripheral as ever. Scored with a free header from a corner and created fuck all else. Madrid could have scored 3 or 4 on another night.

The usual Scum story.

I think you've been watching a different game, mate.

Exception of Ronaldo's goal (which was one of the great leaps and headed goals), Madrid created little. Amazing save at the far post from De Gea, a couple of excellent long range shots from Di Maria; otherwise they ran and passed well but didn't have enough to get the job done.

Conversely, RVP had three excellent chances to win it with one almost total miss that Xabi cleared off the line.

I actually also thought Rooney played very well. Get's shifted around almost as much as Gerrard because his manager knows he'll do the job anywhere. He looked bloody heavy but kept running till the 80th minute and always seemed to carry a threat.

I don't think the Manc's are secure enough at the back to go any further and would be ripped to pieces by Barca. If it wasn't for Madrid's exceptional schedule of playing Barca 3 times before heading to OT I'd say they'll win it in the 2nd leg. That schedule, however, makes me wonder.

I remain as convinced as I was last year that Bayern are the team to beat. Will be interesting to see how far Dortmund can go - think they'll do Shakhtar now.

Always makes me laugh with Rooney. People like to dismiss him cos he played for Everton and them cunts.

He's a fabulous footballer, the best England has at the minute. Yeah he's that shite he's gonna break bobby charltons record and be all time top scorer.

Shite obv.

I don't deny he's talented but I'm sceptical he's as talented as he's rated by some people.

Scratch that

I think he has the talent, but not the consistency /work ethic needed to be amongst the best.

I'm sure Charlton would have scored many more of there were as many meaningless friendlies back in t'day

I wouldn't ever knock rooneys work ethic mark. You've obv not watched much if that's what your having a pop at

Yeah, his work ethic can't be questioned; if anything he does too much work and it blunts his cutting edge up top.

The issue is that he doesn't really have a trophy where people say "that was Rooney" or at least not a big one. 2005, most people think that - aside from 6 crazy minutes - that was Gerrard's CL. There's Owen's FA Cup in '01 etc. Rooney doesn't have that so there's a question on his delivery on the big stage. I think there are other issues, such as Ronaldo etc, that have produced that. For a feted superstar he's been remarkably ok with being the waterboy for the good of the team.

It may count against him on an individual level but I unfortunately know a lot of manc supporters and don't know any who rate him as less than indispensable.

I've seen him a fair few Times seemingly apathetic. I think they're the games when he's off song and he knows it, so his effort level dips.

He's also too inconsistent for me.

As I said, no doubt he's exceptional, but he isn't consistent enough

Or like before he was "injured " where he was clearly carrying a few extra pounds and was playing awful. After this rin of form he was substituted and Fergie claimed injury. When he came back he looked leaner

Out of curiosity mate, have you ever played the game yourself?

For me managers have always had a very big say in things.

Of course you always thrive to play your best game, but there's always a lot other factors influenting on how prepared you are, fired up, etc. And I have not even played on a level of note.

I've played lots of games.
I know when you walk across that white like it up to you whether you've listened to the manager or not.

The Assumption that most of what happens is by design is nonsense. If Fergie had his way do you think Giggs would have taken that touch?

If you want to judge a manager, judge him by the decisions he makes. The results involve a whole lot more than the manager so to say bad or good results = bad or good management is short sighted.

Bayern have conceded one goal away from home this season. Thats insane.

In regards to Rooney. He's great player and one of the best England have at the moment.
But he's to inconsistent in the goalscoring department for me. He scores 8 in 8 games and then plays 8 games without scoring.
