Can I just say that Dirk Kuyt is one of the worst "footballers" ever to play in attack for Liverpool? He can be effective though and given the disasterous signings Rafa has made in attack bar the odd one or two, he probably deserves to be in the team ahead of the rubbish that's left.

I'd prefer to appreciate him when the team useless and he is getting us out of the shit.. playing well only when the team plays well suggests that he is a passenger... quite ironic for someone who"works hard" eh?
 
Contrary to what a lot of people are saying, he's doing what he always does. He's scored 5 already this season and I can bet he'll reach his last season's tally of 15 again.

Appreciate the fact that he's a different player. He's not going to make us play quality football or single -handedly get us out of the rut. He's great at what he does - like he was last season and has been doing so this season too IMO. The lack of other 'footballers' in the team this year is what is seemingly exposing him, and unlike some of them, he has several redeeming qualities.

You said that your expectation of one player should not be lower because the team aren't doing very well. You said that about Insua, when I pointed out that he was doing very well last year when the team did well, and now with Kuyt you're changing your choon. Big lol.

Not a big Dirk fan. At all.

I'd prefer a winger who could control a ball, run fast and beat players with skill, even if he isn't getting as many tap-ins as Dirk (who tends to score most of his goals up front anyway).

When the team is playing crap they often look to their creative players out wide to turn games, Kuyt has responded by playing even worse. Sorry, defending him is crazy now.

I don't want to take Rashid's side in this but you cannot ask a question like that without saying that 8 (it could be more but I seem to remember 8) of his goals were while playing striker ... His goal rate (I don't know the assist count) from the RW slot is nothing to write home about.

Because I am not anti-Kuyt. I don't think he's good enough to be our starting RW - though when he's on form, he contributes a lot. But I don't think he's nearly as bad as you're making it out to be. As I said before, I'd prefer Kuyt ( & Yossi) was a bench option and not a key 1st team member ... Oh well ...

He had 10 assists last season LTW, along with the 15 goals. That's very solid production whichever way you look at it.

He's not a game changing player at the RW, I don't think anyone says that. But he's a great cog in a winning team. When he's surrounded by dross, he can look ordinary - nevertheless, he still works his socks off and tries to contribute despite his limitations. 5 goals and 2 assists in 17 games isn't game changing production, but it's solid and suggests he hasn't been as poor as some have been making him out to be.
