This isn't a dig at anyone, but in light of recent criticism, I thought I'd point out how excellent he was last night. MOTM for me (with Masher at least).

Brilliant interplay, intelligent runs on and off the ball, positive and made good use of flicks and tricks. A really good performance. When the team plays well he generally plays well. A good solid performer who'll come up with 10-15 goals a season, many of which are in big games. There's not many top players around who can lay claim to that from a wide role.

Special mention to N'Gog too. Criticism aplenty it seems, yet this £1.5m signing looks set to finish the season with at least 10 goals. Can anyone justifiably be critical of that? Yeah we need another top quality addition in attack, but the boy has done good. He's come in, got his head up, looked confident, and crucially - scored goals.

Wow you're up early Mark.

The bolded part bugs me sometimes. I really hope Kuyt steps up even when the rest of the team is playing like shit. As one of the senior players of the team, he should grab a game by the scruff of the neck. Also, I think he played well because he was played in a central role? Didnt watch the match so I don't know. Would like to see him get a run alongside Torres in a 4-4-2, even if he doesn't score he can create alot of havoc upfront.

I honestly didn't think he did much deserving special praise. He was competent. Still gave the ball away cheaply And had his consistent touch of a rapist. I thought masch completely outdid him in nearly every aspect.

Kuyt does tend to go on runs of good form so lets hope this is the start of one, hes been crap so far this season. I'm not going to do the truffle shuffle for him just yet.

He had a good game, but should have scored on his 2 chances.

Yes, you might say that Kirkland made to very good saves, but he hit it straight at him both times.

Let's just be happy he had a good game like he did - when was the last time we saw Kuyt perform like this for a whole game?

As I said when Gerrard/Torres were out/playing injured, our season would rest on how Yossi & Kuyt carry the team. They both sadly couldn't do it ...

There's two reasons why he is getting it:

1) People love him (rightly or wrongly)
2) He's been so average (below average even?) the past 2 months that a performance like this has given people hope that he's about to go on his 'green patch'

He was playing as a striker last night. Not wide. And he was ok. Well actually he was good compared to recent weeks, but he was starting from a low base

He was much better than he has been of late and had a good game in many respects but he was not in the top 3 best players for me. Still good to see him playing better though.

I thought he did pretty well and enjoyed seeing him upfront with a strike partner.

Playing 4-2-3-1 without Torres doesn't work for us.

Squiggs - I think that is the key to being successful the rest of the season.

Rafa needs to go to a 4-4-2 with Kuyt as Torres partner and start Yossi at RM, with Gerrard/Masch in the middle and whoever on the left. It may be a very bad sign for Aquilani but the 4-2-3-1 is no longer working for us ...

yes.

Yup - and if he continues to improve the way he has since he arrived here, I am hoping for an even more important role in the team.

I don't think that's a fair statement. Some players have the attributes to dominate a game - most don't. Just because he's a senior player doesn't mean he can do this. I am bothered by Kuyt's prolonged periods of poor form though. The first year, with his father's death, was understandable. I was hoping to see a more consistently good player after, though. I do like Dirky though, and hope he can be more consitent.

Maybe I'm reading you wrong, but if you can't see that Ngog is a special talent with all the attributes needed for a top class striker, then maybe your judgement of young players is lacking. In my opinion, Ngog will either be a Liverpool player in 2012 or be at a bigger club on a bigger stage.

Carragher bless him. Big clubs have big stadiums, spend big money (or at least money) and do not pad out their squads or even first teams with free signings. The only thing big about Liverpool is our history. Sad but true.

He really pissed me off when he squared it instead of shooting in the second half. I didn't notice him do much.
[/quote]

Funny, despite what every else has said I wasn't over impressed with Kuyt either, and I am a big fan of Dirk. As you say he really should have taken on the angled shot that time he squared for Ngog, who was far from unmarked.

Also, which i thought was very uncharacteristic of Dirk, a few times near the end he just seemed to give up on tracking back and left us a bit exposed on our right.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay sunderland are a big club!

Chelsea aren't as their ground ain't too big

Anyone who comes on here and says Liverpool isn't a big club is...

a) looking for a fight
b) wrong

We have two of the best players in the world, one of the largest fan bases in the world, we've been in 2 European Cup finals in the last 5 years and we nearly won the toughest league in the world last year. Despite this, most people regard us as "underachieving" because we're such a fucking massive club that everyone thinks we should be winning something every year.
