I think considering we have slow as xmas Reira or cut inside Yossi on the left then I'd rather have the pace of Valencia than the workrate of Kuyt in those all to many stalemate games we had last year.
For someone who likes Yossi, you sure have an odd way of showing it ...
Ha ha he cuts in when on the left.
Woah, I thought it said 'Cunt Inside Yossi'!

It's early and I apologize

I find it odd when people, just like Keni above say they haven't warmed to Kuyt. I think he is one of the most likeable players in the squad and even one of my favourite players. Great for us on the pitch, (chips in with goals, assists and immense work rate and show leadership qualities from time to time) and great off the pitch as he rarely voices an outlandish word to the media. A model pro and as Ryan said a managers dream. He is Rafa soldier so to speak. Yes he drifts into a rut from time to time but never shirks responsibility and is imperative in any big game will play.

To call him a grafter is an injustice to the player. Dirk has shown with important goals and assists that he is clearly more than just a work horse.
How about the fact I love Kuyt for all his effort, love seeing him score and wish every player had his desire and work rate yet I still don't rate him as more than a grafter as Vlad says.

I think our own fans can be very blinkered at times. He would not get into any of the top 5 sides apart from us on the right wing. He is doing a good job as a striker on the right wing. I would still like to see him played in his favourite position but thats not going to happen under Rafa.
Kuyt > Valencia, Nani
Kuyt > Diaby, Nasri, Denilson, Insert other Arsenal Midfield player here. Rosicky in his pomp is a cracking player mind. Walcot could easily be classed as a striker.

It's hard to say for Chelsea cause they don't use an a RW at times. Is it fair to compare Kuyt with Essien for example?
I'd rather Valencia on the RW but I guess thats just opinion.
I've decided instead of getting angry/laughing at you, I'll ask why.

Why Dreambeliever, would you prefer Antonio '7 goals in 90 Premier League games' Valencia over Dirk Kuyt?
Simply. We drew to many games last year where we couldn't break teams that parked a bus in front of the goal.

To break these teams down we need pace out wide to stretch them and get in behind them.

I think considering we have slow as xmas Reira or cut inside Yossi on the left then I'd rather have the pace of Valencia than the workrate of Kuyt in those all to many stalemate games we had last year.
Last season that statement would be correct ... but this year we have Johnson and Kuyt seems to be the perfect foil for him so far.
True but so far being the important part.

We have played only two teams of any note and both beat us.
Which completely contradicts your previous point about 'not being able to beat teams that parked a bus' doesn't it?

Fucking AAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH........
Hardly.

So basically you'd prefer someone with pace and no goals, over someone with average pace and goals.

Why stop at Antonio Valencia then, let's get Usain cunting Bolt in.
Kuyt went 5 months without a goal before he started scoring its been 1 month barely at a new club for valencia. Give him a chance.

It's all opinions, not a Ryan is right or a Patrick is right.

Thats football. If you don't think Valencia would add an extra demension to our 1 paced attack from the wings so be it.
I think he would. If nothing else he would stretch defences and pull people out of position creating space for the likes of Torres to get free more often and hence score more.

At the end of the day I think Liverpool as a team would be more of threat going forward with the likes of Valencia (or another pacey attacking midfielder) than Kuyt.
It's pretty safe to say that you're never right Pat, so work off that from now on.

Valencia has a goalscoring ratio of 1 in 12 in England. He's never scored a goal in European competition, and has 5 goals for his country.

Dirk on the other hand has a ratio of 1 in 3, has 12 Champions League goals, and 15 (I think) for Holland.

But you're right; Valencia is quick, and that would be much better to have on the right-wing than a proven goalscorer.

He doesn't have very many. He's the sort of player Managers dream about.

Rememebr how vitriolic you used to be about him? Quite funny now really.
Hmmm.. I don't want to drag this debate up again, but he was shite for quite a lengthy spell. That might be attributed to his father dying, but I remember feeling a bit short changed in his first season after being led to believe (by many posters on KT) that he was a 'natural goalscorer'.

He does have a fair amount of limitations, but he's worked on them, which just about sums up his personality and why so many have warmed to the lad. He's very much in the Carra mould.

Kuyt shouldn't be sacrificed because Riera lacks pace and Yossi enjoys cutting in. Why should Kuyt be the wing scapegoat when he is doing a fine job for us and chipping in with goals and assists. This isn't any attack at Yossi who I think is doing excellent for us and I'm also a fan of Albert but to reiterate what I said early, Kuyt is the least of our worries.

If Kuyt was made available a host of Champions League clubs would be interested.

I generally agree with Mark throughout the thread however some of the shit spoken about Kuyt is laughable.

As for who I'd prefer at RW, Kuyt or Yossi? It's a nice problem to have. Like I've mentioned previously, until Aquilani is fit I think Yossi should be behind Torres, interchanging with Kuyt, with Gerrard and Masher in behind.

Exactly so Mark. I really do like Kuyt as a personality, I think he is terrifically loyal and if i had to pick anyone to fight in trenches along-side me it would be him.
He is not a bad footballer and has improved remarkably.
I don't think he has enough in his toolbox, not enough if we really want to progress, and I just don't think he fits.
If we played two up front he might just do, but we don't, and I don't think he is the ideal solution as a right winger, because he just isn't, and Yossi is better playing behind Torres in the absense of Gerrard.
I will give you that he is currently our best option in that role.
As I said I would not want to see him leave, I think he is a great squad player, and a terrific guy.
I only speak as I see it, I would love to say he is a modern day Van Basten, but he just isn't.

If all we're looking for is pace and power on the RW... well... we can just play Babel.
I thought he played well at RW in his brief 10minute cameo on Wednesday. It'd be interesting to see if he gets any games out there. He might be better suited dribbling from the right given that he's so one-footed.

bollox arguement, Kuyt was SHAT there is no denying it and now he is far far from it in fact he is very good quality honest player who does a shit load for the team and chips in goals while remaining professional at all times.

Hes worked hard enough for ten men and maximised the return from his ability. He is a damn good player for that IMO.
I absolutely love Dirk Kuyt.
Ditto..

Glen Johnson is our right winger. Dirk just keeps the LB busy until Glen arrives then pops off into the middle. Comparing Kuyt's current role to that of a traditional winger is insane.

And the thread should end there.

That sums Kuyt up perfectly and fairly.
