On Radio City this afternoon it just said he was travelling back to Liverpool and would (obviously) miss the midweek international. Didn't say anything about Brum this weekend.

Kuyt's a big miss, no surprise to see the usual suspects acting like it's not a big deal and Maxi/Pacheco/Babel will come in and do a better job.
We will miss him, but it might be a blessing in disguise if someone else steps up.

it's now become a crime to even 'suggest' maxi (an accomplished right midfield) 'may' do better than kuyt (a makeshift right midfielder)...

It's not a crime, it's just a bit ridiculous.

Maxi is rubbish.

*scrambles for pic of joker doing the "serious" thing*

I would say Maxi is technically better than Kuyt, but way less assertive. So when the team's playing well, Maxi is the better choice, because he helps us keep the attacks flowing quickly, and his movement and touch are generally excellent. But when the team's struggling for form, Kuyt all the way, because he's more likely to score or create a goal, and he's better defensively.

So right now, Kuyt over Maxi.

Except he's injured, obviously.

Yep, agreed.

Maxi is as dynamic as Lucas.

A ridiculously ott statement

Jan Jan the Hammer Man will sort this out for Dirk, he'll be back sooner than expected.

On a serious note, he's a big player for us, his style and technique might not be great but he gets goals and assists. As a few have mentioned it's up to Maxi to show that he's got the stones to take Kuyt's place in the starting 11.

Yes, because he scores and creates more goals than Kuyt.

Oh wait no, that's not right. He doesn't.
I think that is a bit unfair Bren, considering the number of starts Maxi has had in half a season
regards

I'm a big Kuyt fan but he has not started the season particularly well. He was fucking horrendous against Citeh, but I suppose he wasn't alone there. And let's face it, he's always been poor on the right in a 4-4-2. I certainly think with the way Maxi finished last season, he might count himself a little unlucky not to have been involved more. I also remember Stevie commenting on Maxi being an 'intelligent' player last season, and how much he enjoyed playing with him. I like him as a player, and certainly think he adds a creative spark when he's playing well.

Perhaps if Jovanovic continues to disappoint on the left (and I agree with JJ that he's better suited to playing through the middle as backup to Torres), we could try Kuyt on the left and Maxi on the right. Kuyt's played well there for the Dutch and also managed to set Torres up from that position against the Baggies.

He injured his shoulder while attempting to do an over head kick in training.

You're not built for fancy smancy trickery Dirk!!

I think you're right in that it may be a good formation; it's also probably theonly way we'll getthe best out of all the players.

I agree with that whole-heartedly. In fact, given our personnel, I think Kuyt is the best left-winger in the squad.

Babel time!

again.
Don't know if anyone has commented on it and it probably doesn't mean anything but he looked head and shoulders above everyone else in Carra's testimonial.

It surely made me think twice for the 217th time that PERHAPS the best is yet to come? He's soooo pacy and actually not bad on the ball either. In theory he should be a very good asset for us.

In theory.

I hope we'll see something like this against Brum:

............................Meireles............Poulsen.................................
Cole..................................Gerrard....................................Babel
.....................................Torres....................................................

We'll miss Kuyt. He's an influential player and a good motivator whose work ethic especially during away games is invaluable.

That said we have adequate replacements, I'd start with Maxi and use Babel as an impact sub if necessary.

Is Cole still banned?
Oh... forgot about that. I think he is yes.

Maxi instead of Cole then or perhaps Pacheco?

Dirk Kuyt will be out of action for four weeks with a shoulder injury, Liverpool Football Club can confirm.

The club's medical team examined the Dutchman following his early return from international duty yesterday.

Dr Peter Brukner said: "Dirk has damaged his shoulder at the A-C joint, which is between the collar bone and the shoulder. He is likely to be out for four weeks."

The Dutch media have reported that the injury was sustained after Kuyt fell awkwardly in training.

The 30-year-old now appears likely to miss games against Birmingham, Steaua Bucharest, Manchester United, Northampton, Sunderland and an emotional return to former club Utrecht.

maxi pad will step up and do the business 🙂

I liked the look of Babel on the right aswell. Could try him there in a game or two aswell.

Fingers crossed everyone else returns injury free.

*Special crossing of all body parts for Nando*

Is this some sort of jinx we have? Does every player who gets drawn against a former club instantly get ruled out?

Wonder if we can invite Gremio to Europe, and play them every fucking week?
