Glen Johnson faces five more weeks out

Ugh, these injuries behave strangely sometimes, but he didn't look close to being match ready for Stoke, and I hope he wasn't rushed back. He'll fit in brilliantly now we are playing a more expansive style.

You could see he pulled something almost straight after he came on.
Within five minutes he was playing in a centre back position as he couldn't chase his man on the wing.
It was a big mistake to play him and I'd really question this new big time medical division at LFC that's actually not improved our injury prone players one bit.
Aurelio, Gerrard, Kelly, Johnson, Torres. Their injuries continued after the medical department was put in place.

So do you think with the experts which the club paid millions on couldn't solve the injury problem is the real problem behind this issue or the player itself?

And you reckon that other club medical experts are better than us? tell me.

People get injured, it's not an exact science, if it was that easy we wouldn't have any injuries because the medical experts could assess if something was about to go or if a groin/hamstring/whatever was particularly weak. It happens, you turn too awkwardly, you overstretch for the ball, you land on the turf uncomfortably. Shit happens. If we played him I'd imagine we thought he was fit enough, I think our caution with other players has been pretty significant on that note. Look at Gerrard, look at how we've handled Suarez because of his busy Summer.

I doubt we've thrown a player in just because we could. Aurelio is just injury prone fullstop, it happens. Gerrard's always had niggles and his groin snapped in training. Torres doesn't even play for us anymore. Hysterical beyond belief.

i'm shocked how soon people are getting on Flanagan's back. surely we all recognise this is just the price of giving kids a chance? speculate to accumulate etc.

he'll be fine: he's a good defender, he just needs handling carefully, more experience, and to finish growing and filling out. i think he's definitely a prem standard player, although it's not clear yet whether he'll quite be england standard, but he's got a chance here imo. my worry about the spurs game would be him going up against bale, who's obviously excellent on his day - a better version of gutierrez, who gave flanagan a bit of a bullying at anfield last season.

Completely agree.

You won't get many young players who will come into the side and be amazing straight away. Its a big step up from youth/reserve team football to the first team and I believe the best way of making that step up is to actually play games.

Obviously if a player comes in and looks totally out of their depth, fluffing every pass, late in every tackle etc then its a fair indication that they are not ready to step up, but Flanagan has looked good enough in enough matches to be permitted the odd mistake surely? Especially when you consider that the more experienced likes of Johnson and Agger are also far from perfect and make mistakes too

We should start a crisis thread. A kind of drop in centre/helpline to deal with football related stress and hysteria.

One mistake and Flannigan 'isn't ready'. Two mistakes and Carragher is 'finished'.

Not having that.

A multitude of fuck ups and Glen Jo is sound though.

Glenjo *is* sound, most of the time.

You make out like he's Traore.

What? Hysterical beyond belief? Well you've got a pretty low threshold for your belief system!
'Look how we've handled Suarez'? We played him in the first game of the season. Yeah, great medical advice there (Kenny admitted to the error post game). We played Carroll too early too (Kenny admits this also).
Isn't a revamped medical department with supposedly top guys supposed to fix people with niggling injuries? Assess exactly when players should realistically be ready?
If you're dismissing my concerns as 'hysterical beyond belief', so be it but if you really believe what you wrote, then it sounds to me like you agree with me that the club might have pissed away millions on this new medical department/sports science department.

Why? Because I think we're still suffering from the same problems, as shown in my first post with the list of players (+Carroll) and consider that to be an issue for this department.
You however are saying shit just happens. Doesn't matter who's taken over this revamped department.

So is the sports science department a waste of money? So far I believe, like you, that it is.

Carra and Flanno make a couple of fuck ups between them and they should be dropped, but with Glen Jo it's ok cos he's sound most of the time? That was the point, I wasn't saying he was Djimi Traore, just that some posters are allowing some players a bit of give over mistakes, while giving others players stick in other threads.

When have you ever known any teams medical department to 'fix' players that have well documented injury records? How many different sets of physio's etc have dealt with Fabio Aurelio during his career? That's the point. Suarez scored against Sunderland and then got subsequent rests here and there, we were careful with him and (touch wood) he doesn't seem any worse off for it.

In perspective, fair enough, there's no real evidence to say that the current medical staff are any better than the last, but then they've only been here five minutes, haven't they? Unless you believe that all injury problems can be cured over night.

Flanno's a solid defender for a youngster, but I don't think he possesses the natural talents nor physical attributes of his rivals in the position. Obviously the same could have been said for Carra years ago, so he probably should be given some games, particularly when we're faced with two first choice RB's out.
Carra's in a situation where I think most supporters simply want to see our new giant centre back playing. Any excuse to see him in a game, and Carra's currently the easier one of the CB's to use as a scapegoat.

I thought they'd been here for a couple of seasons? That was why I mentioned Torres. Fair enough if they've only been here for five minutes.

I don't know tbh JM, I just assumed most managers brought in their own staff, I'd imagine at least some of them have been here a while though, I just seem to remember us supposedly bringing in some key guy?

Flannos main issue at the moment is when he does make a mistake, which all players do, it really seems to affect him mentally within the match and he struggles to regain confidence. He's a kid though and will learn to handle it better
