Dirk Kuyt will be out for several weeks with a shoulder injury, according to reports in the Dutch media.

De Telegraaf has reported that the 30-year-old was sent to hospital for scans after he sprained a joint landing awkwardly stretching to reach a cross.

Kuyt started Friday's 5-0 Euro 2012 qualifying thumping of San Marino but has been ruled out of Tuesday's clash against Finland.

Manager Bert Van Marwijk is quoted as saying: "He will probably have a few weeks off and at 4pm today he will step on to the plane to Liverpool."

Yes, because he scores and creates more goals than Kuyt.

Oh wait no, that's not right. He doesn't.

maxi haven't really had the chance to prove it one way or the other as kuyt (regardless of form) is picked.

maxi's record for AM
year goals (all competitions)
2009–10 8
2008–09 9
2007–08 8
2006–07 6
2005–06 11

dirk kuyt
year goals (all competitions)
2009–10 11
2008–09 15
2007–08 11
2006–07 14

just a comparison of the two over the past few years. I think that it's likely kuyt would score more than maxi but I think maxi would create more chances for the players around him and help liverpool perform better as a team as he is a natural wide midfielder rather than a converted striker.
anyway, maxi has the chance to prove his worth because kuyt is out, I hope he grabs his chance.
one last thing, torres was asked who he'd most like from AM and he said maxi even though sergio aguero was on the books.

maxi finally has his chance. if he takes it and plays well no way should kuyt come back as automatic first choice.

Or Cole on the right, Gerrard behind Torres and Meireles and Poulsen in the middle.

who's on the left?

Cole was given some sort of assurance about playing centrally though. Not that that should commit Roy to picking him there regardless, but he does need to hesitate before going back on an understanding which was said to be instrumental in persuading Cole to choose us.

I'd be less pessimistic about Meireles and Poulsen's eventual prospects in CM than some, but I don't think it'll work just yet. Meireles has just got here and Poulsen's clearly not acclimatised yet. More work needed on the training ground first IMHO.

That twit Jovanovic 😛

Obviously after Coles suspensions over

Is ths the first time he's actually been out for a while?

Notsure if I can even remember him being injured.

Give him a chance, eh? He's barely started his LFC career. In any case he hasn't been that bad.
[/quote]

Ah I know, was only joking.

He would want to vastly improve though.

ha ha I completely forget about him ;D

He does seem to have more strength than finesse so far. Maybe he'll do best down the middle as the back-up to Torres we (badly) need.

It is a surprise given who's involved, but I always expect internationals to deplete our line-up for the next however many weeks. >🙁

That much is certain. We are going to face several anxious international weeks over the season.

Our squad is thin, and a vast majority of them are proper full internationals. The expectation on each squad member is to play about 50 60 games this year. It's a big ask.

Torres travelling to, playing in, and travelling back from Argentina being possibly the biggest ask of this current round of internationals.

I'd quite like to see one or two others get an opportunity, but we have the United game coming up pretty soon and Kuyt tends to be an important player for us in these sort of games.

On Radio City this afternoon it just said he was travelling back to Liverpool and would (obviously) miss the midweek international. Didn't say anything about Brum this weekend.

Kuyt's a big miss, no surprise to see the usual suspects acting like it's not a big deal and Maxi/Pacheco/Babel will come in and do a better job.

It says a couple of weeks, which means he could probably play against Utd if everything goes his way. Kuyt is usually a quick healer anyways

Torres travellig to Buenos Aires for a friendly is fucking horribly stupid though...

I think we'll play slightly more incisive football without kuyt, yet i'm sure we won't retain possession as well. After all, when kuyt loses it at least he wins it back

A lot of Dirks game is dependant on his touch being absolutely spot on.

Some days it is, and others it's all over the place. There's no consistency to it.
