Kuyt's performances have been up and down the entire season. He's often great at home but poor away. Now we've got the result vs Man City in recent memory so I guess he's the best forward in world right now but I bet it'll be back to status quo in the next game.

That's harsh in the extreme, alot of players are inconsistent or have purple patches, Rooney is one of the worst for it and he's fucking quality. Kuyt is fine away from home, when we have the right sort of players and balance. When the onus is on him more because of a lack of pace, his flaws become obvious, though I'm sure if we had a nippy player upfront, without the fight of players like Carroll or Kuyt up there, their flaws would too become just as apparent.
It's amazing, the people on here who are always the quickest to lay into him sound almost scathing giving their begrudged acknowledgement.
Anyway, it's not just the performance or result against City that has elevated him in any way, nor the hattrick against United (how many players can claim that?), it's the fact he continuously proves the doubters wrong by scoring important goals in important games.

I don't think it's harsh at all Mark. You said it he score s goals in the important matches but what about the not so important matches?
It might seem that I'm laying the blame on Kuyt for us losing in the EL or against WBA, but its's probably due to our midfield.
Consider this, how has Suarez played since he joined?
His rating has not dropped below 7/10 in any game regardless if it's WBA or Man U. Imagine if we had another player like that who could play on the wing.
