Switch Klose for Voronin, and I'm very happy.
*nods*

This would also make me happy.
Klose is a clever player. He may be 31 but his game has never been based on pace so he should another good few years left in him. He is a poacher and he would be a very, very good sqaud player for us.
You mean like Morientes?
For every Morientes there's a Riedle etc. You can't base an argument against signing a proven Intl striker on the basis that a player with similar attributes once failed. We'd never sign anyone.

Klose would every chance of succeeding, but if not he'd only be back-up anyway. It's a risk worth taking at relatively little cost I'd presume.

He'd be a splendid back-up for Torres really. He's always scored goals. I like the idea really.

No, I am discussing Klose, not Morientes.
Keep up mate.
I know. That's why I added the word 'like'.
Maybe, maybe not.
What do we do though? Never buy anyone with no experience of the Premiership?
Never buy anyone who isn't pacey? Never buy anyone over 30?

Sure Morientes didn't work out overall but he shouldn't be the barometer you use to judge other strikers.
It works out for some and it doesn't for others. My opinion is that Klose would be good for a number of reasons.
Relatively little cost? How do you know that? Bayern pay him € 9,5 million a year. That's around £ 115.000 per week. Not exactly a bargain. The transfer fees which are reported in the German press are around £ 16 million.

Not cheap for a back-up.

Well obviously the German Press are talking out of their arses then.
No one is going to pay £16 mil for Klose. Anyway, he is talking about leaving the club 'at some stage' so we can take from that he means at the end of his current contract where he will get a tidy pension fund and won't cost any club a cent in transfer fees.

Yesterday Kicker was reporting that freakin Borussia Mönchengladbach were lining up a loan-bid for Agger for the rest of the Season.

what's wrong with Monchengladbach?

We have seemingly very good relations with them also.

(not that it would happen obviously).
Nothing in particular but what are the odds that the current no. 15 in the Bundesliga would ever succeed in taking one of our better plays on a season long loan?

Zero = They are talking out of their arses.

That's all.

You can believe the press or not. It's like anywhere else. Some journos talk bullshit, others don't.

But a fact is that Bayern will want cash in the region of the mentioned figure if someone wants to buy him. At the end of his contract Klose will be 33 because it lasts until 2011. And even if we get him on a Bosman there still are fees we have to pay.

And what about his wages? £115.000 per week for a back-up striker? Or do you think he'll play for much less?

Monchengladbach lining up a bid is not beyond any possibility. Stranger things have happened.

But that does not automatically mean we'll accept it, does it?

Bayern may WANT that amount of cash for Klose, but the dog in the street knows they will not get anywhere near that amount of money for a 31 year old with fuck all sell-on value and/or massive public image (ie. big shirt sales). Klose knows this too.

With regard to his wages, I think to give a 33 year old that much is crazy.
No one would pay that kind of money, Klose would be aware of this.
If we can afford to give Degen a £2 mil signing on fee and Voronin the guts of 55k a week, we can work out a deal to bring anyone, and I mean ANYONE, to the club on a free transfer.

We should sign him.... because we need someone who can do back flips and front flips when we score.

I never said that DWM. I was saying, along with others, that he would be a good addition to our squad.
I am not saying he is the answer to all of our problems, I am just stating my opinion that he would be an improvement on what we currently have.

I agree with you that he would be an improvement. But I do have my concerns regarding his transfer fee and wage demands. He would be too expensive for a back-up striker I'm afraid.

We are in agreement!
With the system we play, it would be crazy to spend loads of cash on someone who will be on the bench more often than not. Unless Rafa is about to change the whole system yet again.
