Kenny Huang leading serious bid for LFC

Broughton knows that his reputation hinges on this and that he has the future of something he is well aware is massively significant in the history of British, European and world football, in his hands.

I have every confidence in him to do the right thing by LFC, whatever that is.

Squiggs, H and G's prospects from the sale depend on the terms of sale - how much the club is sold for, and how much (if any) of that attaches to their shares in it.

Admittedly there'd be a certain grim satisfaction in seeing them walk away with bugger all, but TBH that's a side issue as far as I'm concerned. I'd even go as far as to say that I'd prefer them to get something out of the sale if that's what it takes to get it done.

Prospective new Liverpool owner Kenny Huang has refused to comment on claims his buy-out is backed by the Chinese government.

Reports have suggested Huang is fronting a bid for China Investment Corporation (CIC), the Chinese government's sovereign wealth fund which manages a £188bn portfolio.

However, Huang's representatives are remaining tight-lipped on where their money is coming from.

"We will not confirm or deny any matter in relation to the Liverpool Football Club unless and until we and the representatives of Liverpool FC have chosen to do so jointly," said a spokesman for the Hong Kong-based businessman.

It has been claimed that CIC has sold £351million worth of shares in the global financial services firm Morgan Stanley, of which it acquired a 9.9% stake three years ago, in the last couple of weeks - a figure equivalent to the debts currently held by Liverpool.

Huang yesterday confirmed he was interested in acquiring Liverpool but had not made a formal bid.

There are believed to be around five other groups involved in the process but the only other to have gone public is Syrian businessman Yahya Kirdi, representing a group of investors from the Middle East and Canada.

But his claim yesterday that a price had been agreed with co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett and a formal purchase agreement "is in the final stage of negotiation" was greeted with some suspicion.

Reds chairman Martin Broughton is hopeful of concluding a sale by the end of the month but the break-up of Hicks' sports empire has already begun in the United States.

His baseball franchise the Texas Rangers was auctioned off for £374million in the early hours of this morning after Hicks' ownership group defaulted on loans.

According to the team's bankruptcy plan, creditors will only get about £47million of the £330million owed to them.

However, the judge in the case said lenders can go after Hicks' other companies, although it is not sure how that will affect Liverpool, if at all.

The Texan is currently also looking to sell the Dallas Stars ice hockey team by the autumn as he moves out of sports ownership.

Just read in the independient that in the bankruptcy plan for Hicks baseball team the creditors will recieve 47M out of the 350M the are owed .... Food for thought for RBS perhaps. More worringly is the judge ruling that the creditors can go after his other companies!

I reckon this Huang fella has called the Yank bluff at just the right moment. Even a syrian footballer who has met a few sheiks has got to be better.

What joke them pair are.

these fellas better not fuck it up. Missed out on the Shiek. Not the Chinese too.
Contrary to the Communist idelogy, the Chinese government is now one of the most capitalist entities. Communist is excuse or clout to rule with an iron hand. Already moved on from Mao to Deng Xiaoping who famously declared 'To be rich is glorious'.
I would say this has a great chance of happening, Chinese value 'face' (pride) even more than money. They will push to make it happen.

Bit of hope in that last paragraph.... You never know maybe they are being inscrutable in case they need to save face.

Then why have they sold assets which amount to the exact total of our club/debt?

How do you know why have sold assets which amount to the total of our club debt?
[/quote]

It's been mentioned in a few different articles

Ha-ha yeah right.

Another possibility is that CIC are 'investing' in a new investment vehicle. This would allow them to deny direct investment whilst still providing whatever funds are needed by adding further to their 'investment' whenever required.

Ha. However it has been voted the best designed pavilion at the Expo.

I took this whilst there last. It's pretty ingenious and attracts huge crowds.

The Times ran with this Chinese Takeover story on the front and back pages of today's paper

Now, I know journos get things wrong or things change, but you'd have thought there was pretty concrete evidence to justify it

Am I clutching? Much?

Of course, but aren't we all? TBF you're better placed than most to assess this. If you reckon it's a genuine possibility, that'll do for me.

I went to shanghai last month too, but the stand I was referring to wasn't the british one on the pudong side of the river but the specifically liverpool one, over by the massive techno bit etc. there's about twenty odd cities with one liverpool being the only uk representative. It was a bit gay but the locals seemed to enjoy it. It's focus was mostly footy and the beatles predictably, but the 3d film they showed had the the manc batty parade for some reason.

what the hell is that thing Frogfish?

The British Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai. Made up of thousands of light conducting rods to illuminate the interior, etc. etc.

Oh yes there is that one too - sorry don't have any shots of that one yet. I've been three times and still haven't covered half of the Pudong side, before starting on the Puxi side of the river !

Liverpool is twinned with Shanghai .... does that count as another indicator ?

By the way, the british one was by far the coolest there as it was the only one that made no boastful claims at all. Didn't even look british or claim to be. Just a series of seeds embedded into fibre optics to make a visually stunning space inside and out.

I got some photos of the liverpool bit but can't upload them here. They're a bit crap anyway. And yeah I was only there a day and just scratched the surface. Did axis-of-evil street with North Korea and Iran, and the cuba one is good coz they do cocktails but fuck, they spent 4 billion on the place innit. Everyone who can go should

Is this Huang guy buying us or what?

Run yourself a bath. We'll give you a shout if there's any news.

May I humbly suggest that if (when? *prays*) this goes through, somebody more technically minded than I edits that video of the Chinese guy banging on about Twilight so that we can have "It's a done deawrr baby!" splashed all over the place?
