Italys preliminary squad-

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Morgan De Sanctis (Napoli), Federico Marchetti (Cagliari), Salvatore Sirigu (Palermo)

Defenders: Salvatore Bocchetti and Domenico Criscito (Genoa), Leonardo Bonucci (Bari), Fabio Cannavaro, Giorgio Chiellini, Fabio Grosso and Nicola Legrottaglie (all Juventus), Mattia Cassani (Palermo), Christian Maggio (Napoli), Gianluca Zambrotta (Milan)

Midfielders: Mauro German Camoranesi, Antonio Candreva and Claudio Marchisio (all Juventus), Andrea Cossu (Cagliari), Gennaro Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo (AC Milan), Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina), Angelo Palombo (Sampdoria), Simone Pepe (Udinese)

Forwards: Marco Borriello (AC Milan), Antonio Di Natale (Udinese), Alberto Gilardino (Fiorentina), Vincenzo Iaquinta (Juventus), Giampaolo Pazzini (Sampdoria), Fabio Quagliarella (Napoli)

only Di Rossi is missing with a knock who should feature.

No Aqualani
[/quote]

Aquilani was never going to be picked considering how much he played this season.

That squad list above is for a 2 day training camp in Rome, not the official WC squad.

De Rossi not in it due to Coppa Italia fixture with Inter.

Also Totti could still be named, Azzurri really lacking flair and creativity. Pirlo has has a poor season, Marchisio is doing well at Juve but it's a big stage perhaps too early in his career.

Very disappointing to see Borriello & Quagliarella, who both done nothing this season.

Lippi should be taking Cassano and Miccoli (who has had 2 top seasons with Palermo)

No Luca Toni??

No Luca Toni??

Like I said, no Roma players selected in this 2 day camp because of their upcoming fixture against Inter in the Copa Italia.

I doubt Lippi will take Toni ... hardly played first half of the season, and then had an injury interrupted campaign with AS Roma.

Never really done much for the national side anyway.

Hasnt Cannavaro's brother also had a good season?
Quagliarella has been given a fair bit of stick this year from his manager and the fans.. not been anywhere near good enough.

I guess Cassano and Inters young tempermental prodigy are just too risky in terms of squad morale. Cassano was amazing at points during hte season.

Yeah Paolo Cannavaro has had a top season for Napoli, and was quite good last season too.

I think if he were to be in the WC squad he'd have been picked in this 2 day training camp squad.

In terms of midfielders I think Lippi will take 8 midfielders and most likely 8 from the following:

Andrea Pirlo, Massimo Ambrosini - AC Milan
Danielle De Rossi, Simone Perrotta - AS Roma
Gennaro Gattuso,Mauro Cameranesi, Claudio Marchisio, Antonio Candreva - Juventus
Angelo Palombo - Sampdoria
Riccardo Montolivo, Marco Marchionni - Fiorentina
Gaetano D'Agostino - Udinese
Pasquala Foggia - Lazio
Davide Biondini, Andrea Cossu - Cagliari
Simone Pepe - Udinese
