Downing is going to be the same as he ever is, I.e. not a 20m player.

The mediocrity I'm pointing to is our decision making and peoples acceptance of it.
downing is going to get double figures in assists and anyone who can manage that isn't 'mediocre'
Two things, well done for misreading my post firstly.

And your point about assists is so misinformed that I just can't be arsed arguing against it.
I thought you'd have just laughed at the goals thing and been done with it.

That said, how is the assists thing misinformed, he'll cross/pass the ball and someone will score = assist. There can't be much more to it can there? I've watched his video and that's generally the gist of it, he crossed and passed the ball several times and a player scored.

What am I missing?
exactly, mark.

disregarding the value of assists in general as a method for judging a player for now. History shows you can buy a player who can give you ten assists for less than five million. If assists is what we want, why dont we buy them at a cheaper price?
okay, I get you now.
so you mean n'zog for 9 mil? what if the management team simply indentified the player they wanted (downing) and went for him? maybe they DO think he is worth the fee they paid.
maybe downing ticks more boxes for what WE need him for than anyne else.

Who would a cheaper better player to sign than Downing Ross? That would be interested in joining us.

It is false that the family of Juan Mata (his dad is agent) has travelled to London to talk to English clubs

Shockingly, it is actually possible to not rate Downing as a signing, and still be bullish about the season and rate our management team. How is this escaping some people? The needless "You are a horrible fan, if you disagree with what they are doing, and you are a condescending know-it-all twat if you thought there was a better signing available", is really getting on my nerves.

How the fuck do you expect to say things like that, and expect people to just disagree with that and walk away? You are obviously going to get a response.....if you don't want it, then don't bait. Rosco it's best you give this one a rest as well mate.....you are never ever going to get them to see where you are coming from. FWIW, i agree with you...

Molby, I've ordered two Mancini style scarves online for us.

Winning.
haha

Had to laugh at radio 5 this morning some official from Man city saying they've signed Aguero and that he felt they needed two or three more signings but "there are no bargains" and they dont want to spend 40M on a player...as though they are hard up and struggling almost... I don't rate Aguero too much tbh, he drifts in and out way too much from what i've seen, but then i wasn't too keen on Torres before while in la liga either.

and nice post by Kingjulian there, i'm reasonably optimistic about the season coming but i'm both amazed and pissed off at how we've spent our money, maybe its unrealsitic and impractical but for the thick end of 40 million I'd expected SOME level of excitiement for the signings we've made, not that i cannot see the arguments in favour of the strategy they followed.

I am looking forward to it though.

you can't call them british, they're blatantly a brazilian/Argentinean genetic experiment. Wales just fluked it that they're so drab that they decided to lighten up the lives of their fans. 2 footed... skill.... pace..... fuck me....

downing and henderson or aguero?

anyone asked that question at the start of the summer would have answered aguero.

We have an Aguero type player already in Suarez. We didnt have one proper winger.

different type of player really...... suarez is all application and skill, aguero is just skill.

A lazy suarez if you will

So basically, if you don't rate a player, the chances are they're going to be a worldbeater? Suddenly I'm more enthusiastic about the Downing signing.

Maybe Del maybe... lets hope so eh... regarding Downer that is and not Aguero. I truly hope Aguero is a cuntpig who when faced with the grey abyss of manchester suddenly develops olympic homesickness disrupting all the previously happy mercenary cunts that theyve already bought, a tevez mk.II but with much fewer goals.

Maybe. I think he'll be great for them though. The thought of him and Silva supplying a main man in a 4-3-3 is, well, sex-wee inducing.

But as you get more enthusiastic about the Downing signing and start rating him higher, he'll start getting worse, it's a vicious circle!

their squad is absolutely fucking ridiculous. most positions have one or two 20 mill + back up options.

The forward line has about 20!

Sky "sources" are saying Arsenal are close to making a deal with Valencia for a fee of around £13.5m for Mata. Outrageous if true. Which it probably isn't.

Its impossible for that fee that arsenal will get mata

they may get bargains but thats just fucking silly
