Good player, has work ethic and attitude which is admirable, BUT Klopp will replace him in the summer.

For me, once Klopp gets his diamond replacement people will see the importance of a CM who can dictate, create, and score goals.

Klopp won't replace him entirely ... though he will become a squad player. He'll take that for a season then I think we;ll see him move on.

We saw the importance of one with Cans performance against Villareal. He held that midfield together and was faultless throughout.

Regarding Henderson, it all rests on his importance and availability next season. Personally I wouldn't back against Henderson bouncing back and becoming a first team regular again - providing his body can take it. Klopp will demand a lot, that's guaranteed, but for me it's wrong to write off anyway who has any attitude like Jordan's. It's happened once before and he was made Captain within a year. That speaks volumes for his, sorry, character.

Allen and Lucas should be at greater risk of being sold, IMO.

he's not good enough on the ball, always looks to release it early and it doesn't come off.

can't fault his work ethic though.

You can't and its great to see someone with his mentality, but like you say ability wise its not at the level we want.

Let's judge him when he's fully injury free perhaps eh?
Then again, there's nothing to say that situation will ever arise again, what with his gait and all.

Name one such player.
There are several but I'm not totally sure about the fee.

Player's I've seen:

Christoph Kramer
Max Meyer
Kevin Strootman (serious knee injury but he's quality)
Youri Tielemans
Sven Bender

Players I've heard about:

Pierre Højbjerg
Marc Stendera
Viktor Kovalenko

Ooooooohkay, so that's three players you haven't seen, one sicknote and you're not sure the rest would cost less than we'd get for Henderson anyway.

Which kinda illustrates the point I was really making. So often in these discussions one poster or another will confidently declare that we can do better, "there's a deal to be done" or some such flummery, when in truth they don't have a Scooby about any of it. I'm actually quite willing to entertain the idea of replacing Henderson if we can improve on him, but those who want to do so are going to have to do a whole lot better if they want to make their case.

Max Meyer isn't a replacement for hendo surely? Different positions

Tielemans I would be all over, and I reckon we could get him under 25

Well you're putting a restriction on it aren't you? £25 million?

Expand that to £35 million and I could probably add 10 more, but that's the thing we need better than Henderson and if we want better we need to pay more. Or we can save £25-35 million and keep hoping that he'll become better.
It took Can who cost us like £10 million, one season to show us that he's better than Henderson.

Mayer is an attacking midfielder. Yeah you're probably right.

Fine margins with Henderson this season. It's been disrupted by injuries including the lengthy lay-off with plantar. When he has been fit and in the team he's put in 5s or 6s and I can remember three or four occasions where he missed some real sitters. The ability is in there but he's trying too hard, his composure isn't there while he's trying to force it.

If one of those sitters had gone in and relieved some of the pressure we could have seen a different player this year.

Let's look at other CM in the premier league:

Man C - Yaya or Fernando
Arsenal - Ramsey or Wilshere or Flamini
Man U - Schweinsteiger or Herrera or Carrick
Chelsea - Oscar or Fabregas
Spurs - Dembele or Dele Alli
Everton - Barkley
Leicester - Kanté or King or Drinkwater

Where does Henderson stand in comparison to these players?

About halfway up the list, and he's more consistent than some of the more talented players on the list.

Weird list that Modo. Oscar and Willian aren't CMs. Fernando, Kante, Carrick are all DMs/holding mids.

Henderson at his best is better than Dembele, Drinkwater, Herrera, Schweinsteiger (who's past it) and Wilshere (who's perma injured).

I'd only take Ramsey, Alli or Barkley over him. Yaya's mostly at the end of his career too.

The PL doesn't really have that many great CMs at the moment.

You're right about Oscar and Willian though. Man I forgot Fabregas.

But Carrick used to be a CM, or he can play there, Kanté can also play there.

Henderson's constantly underrated on here, he's an absolutely immense player when he's on form, the problem with him is that this injury has completely destroyed his form over the last 18months, and he's going to have to be very mentally strong to get over it and get back to his best. When he's at his best, besides from being a solid industrious presence in midfield, his passing in the oppositions half is the best in our squad, and his flicks in and around the box are just delicious. However both those parts of those game massively suffer when he's not on form / coming back from injury which is why he can look so sub par. I think it all stems from a lack of belief in himself, his biggest weakness, I really hope Klopp can kick that coyness out of him, it's holding him back from being a leading premier league midfielder.

Hahahaha! King. Toure. Schweinsteiger. Carrick. Oscar. Flamini.

Fucking hell. Dismal.

Can he kick that "coyness" out of him though?
Henderson became less timid during the title run a few years ago but since then he has regressed.

I agree, thats the big question, if anyone can help him do it it's Klopp, but I worry this injury might have taken too much of a toll on him. He's got next year to prove he can for me, if he doesn't push on by then, it's time to move him on.
