10th assist across all competitions this season, and with his 2 goals, has matched last season's production of goals + assists in a season:

2011/12: 6 goals + 5 assists
2013/14: 5 goals + 7 assists
2014/15: 2 goals + 10 assists

More impressively though, is that his numbers this season are never "padding stats". In other words, the goals and assists were not recorded after we'd already established a lead in game, or after a game had been lost. Here's a breakdown that I've worked out based on data from transfermarkt:

Game-winning goals: 1 (league; i.e. scored winning goal in a one-goal margin victory)
Game-leading goals: 1 (cup; i.e. scored goal that gave us a one-goal lead)
Game-winning assists: 1 (cup; i.e. assisted winning goal in a one-goal margin victory)
Game-leading assists: 7 (league: 6; cup: 1; i.e. assisted goal that gave us a one-goal lead)
Game-tying goals: 0
Game-tying assists: 2 (cup; assisted a goal that is an equalizer to tie the game)

* To avoid double-counting, a game-leading assist / goal that ends up as the game-winning assist / goal is only credited as the latter

In other words, every goal he's scored or assisted this season has been situation-changing in a game for us.
 
I find it weird that Rodgers tried to sell him to Fulham for around £4.5m when he first took charge and now he's our future captain and current playmaker.

Not sure whether Rodgers is a poor judge of a player or he just lucked out with the Fulham move falling through, sounds kind of harsh I suppose and maybe I should give him credit for sticking with Henderson but I'm glad it's all worked out the way it has.

Well, it was blatantly obvious that Hendo was very fragile mentally, and was pretty crap, and went hiding, in the season prior to Rodger's arrival.
You could give Hendo credit for smashing out of his shell, or for Rodgers helping him do just that.
And the deal only fell through because Hendo did a Borini.
Glad it's worked out.
 
I'd choose to look at it differently.
Rodgers has said and is true to his word that players can come back into his plans and the team if they step up and deserve it.
Work hard and you'll get rewarded.

Henderson, Flanagan, Mignolet, Lucas. You could say the same about Balotelli now aswell. Maybe a bit early but it looks like he finally has realized he has to work hard.

Henderson was locked in his shell. Told he wasnt part of Rodgers plans. Didnt want to leave and hasnt looked back since.
I've read a few posts about Henderson and if he actually contributes anything.
Well, the stat table I posted earlier shows he's top in nearly every category.

He's a big part of this team. Without the red card vs City, I'm pretty certain we would have won the league.

He's done very well for us in key situations, but the high counting stats are more a result of volume than growth I feel. He's played far more minutes than anybody else in the midfield and been consistently in the side, so he has inevitably raked in a disproportionate number of goals and assists.

Granted as we're quickly finding with Lallana, staying fit is a skill as well. But if Hendo is our best midfield player of the 2010s then our talent development and acquisition has badly stalled.
 
That deft wedge of a pass to Studge yesterday was absolutely top class, and playing beside the excellent Allen allowed him to produce a lot of really clever attacking play as well as getting through his usual shit load of industry. I'd like a few more goals from him, and I'm sure he wants to improve this side of his game too.

i would not be surprised if he turns out to be our frank lampard (assuming he can add goals and improve his striking of the ball).

I could be over optimistic - but he has that work streak, engine and good timing to arrive in and around the box. He just needs to add goals. Hi striking of the ball could be a bit late to improve upon - it's one of those you either have or don't.
 
As an aside, a similar breakdown for Sterling's numbers (9 goals, 6 assists):

Game-winning goals: 1 (league)
Game-winning assists: 2 (league)
Game-tying goals: 2 (cup)
Game-tying assists: 0
Game-leading goals: 4 (3 league, 1 cup)
Game-leading assists: 2 (1 league, 1 cup)

Total goals + assists = 9 + 6 = 15
Total game-winning / tying / leading goals + assists = 7 + 4 = 11

In fairness, his form had dipped considerably at the start of the season.
However he has turned it around completely. He seems to have matured and grown since news that he is in line for the captaincy has come out.
Apparently most people inside the club attribute the work our sports psychologist to turning Henderson's Liverpool career around.

Henderson and a number of other players (from our team and around the world) have felt the effects of the World Cup in Brazil all year. He doesn't have the stamina he had last year. its to be expected. The conditions were extreme.

England were out of Brasil before they had even settled so surely not.

That's a load of bollocks. England were in Brazil about 5 minutes.
 
The conditions weren't that extreme, it's not as if the players developed trench foot from the constant dampness.
