Jonny Wilkinson

"Mr.Glass" my @rse. Jonny Wilkinson has been playing top-class professional rugby - a brutal sport, FAR more physically demanding and downright dangerous than football - over a period of years, and a major part of his game has been his explosive tackling. Pound for pound he was the heaviest tackler in the team that won one World Cup and got to the final of another. If anything, with his playing style it's amazing that he hasn't been injured even more.

fair point, but are you saying his injuries are expected due to the way he plays? surely others play equally as hard and do not miss half the season a lot of years.

I don't remember Daren Anderton and Redders being tough tacklers ;D

You do have a point to the extent that everybody plays hard in rugby, but no, they don't play equally hard.  Wilkinson hits harder than anybody, against blokes who are often bigger and heavier than he is (I saw him smash Martin Johnson down in a club game once and I swear the contact registered on the Richter scale), besides which he's often targeted in his own right because of his importance to any team he plays for. All in all, physically that lad is writing some very hefty cheques which his body is going to find hard to cash as he gets older.

The way his career has demised is a fucking tragedy.

Fortunately for him he hit the biggest high in the sport.

Fortunately for us we have Cipriani.
