I'm fine with Gomez as backup RB, but I can understand if he feels he needs to leave to get game time. He's 's never looked in contention since he returned from injury.
Realistically one of Matip and Gomez needs to make way for a someone who's actually fit and good.

He simply has to go. Much was said about the midfield but he was the one of our worst player last season imo.
He was decent at RB, but in CB, I think he only had 1 good game against City. He was all over the place in every other game. I don't see how we can ever rely on him, fit or not.

Exactly - but more to the point - if they were to get rid, I want to see them get a defender in before they release him, the last time we did this sort of shit was when Lovren left which meant just 3 first team defenders. Klopp is crazy if he wants to repeat that exercise again. No way.
Not only that - it needs to be a HG replacement.
I know nothing about Debast - I literally have never heard of him - but you’d get 2 years out of him before needing to register.
The key point is - you don’t need to sell Gomez in order to sign Debast from a squad perspective.
Also - in terms of Europe, the squad rules are different - and Gomez, along with Kelleher, Trent & Curtis are the only current players that meet the “Club Trained Criteria”.
I don’t think Phillips meets it, Hendo doesn’t, Van den Berg doesn’t, Carvalho won’t, Morton won’t if he goes out on loan again - though they will meet the Association Trained rule (you can have max 4 Association Trained)
Harvey & Bradley will if they don’t go out on loan again.
It’s the rule that meant Gordon couldn’t play in Europe - so it would impact new U21 players because they need to be at the club for 2 years to qualify directly as an U21 player.

Remember the name...the next big thing to come out of Belgian football, in a couple of years he'll be a prominent player for 1 of the big clubs in Europe and wouldn't surprise me if he's 1 of the best young talents during the upcoming Euro's.
I get we don't need to sell Gomez to sign him but it's more about bringing in someone like him which will then allow us to move him on for the sake of the club and himself.
All these rules are quite frankly doing my head in and hard to follow because it's such a distant memory and rarely applies.
