Joe Cole going on loan to Lille

N'gog gives us a false sense of security, as he provides us with our 4th striker option but in truth if we had injuries and had to rely on him, we'd be in serious trouble.

Look at the four striker options our rivals have

At least Kewell delivered when he was fit.

In which case your idea of 'delivered' must be at polar opposite to mine.

Kewell was shite for years.

I'm all for replacing him with another striker. What I'm not sure of is just getting rid of him.

The likes of Degen and probably Cole have no place in the squad as its unlikely we'll need them. There must be a chance we'll need a 4th striker or else other clubs wouldn't bother either.

Kewell scored goals, provided assists - Joe Cole has done fuck all.

I still fail to see how everyone can really judge Joe Cole on last season. He started nine premiership games last season.
His season got off to a shocker with his sending off against Arsenal, then he picked up and injury and was playing catch-up ever since.

Everyone is still hung up on his fucking wages, and still don't grasp the concept of free transfer=high wages.

I don't agree with all these loan deals at all.

regards

Joe Cole so far has cost us close to £8M, and will cost us another £4.7 million this season.

If he sees out his contract he will cost us close £20.7M.

What's he going to offer to justify that outlay?

I see what you are saying but essentially these 'free' transfers are not dissimilar to buying a player for 20 million and spreading the repayments across 4 years. If the money was going to Chelsea rather than to Cole would you be saying give him another chance or would you be saying we should cut our losses?

I don't like these loan deals either but at the same time I don't like the idea of someone sitting in the reserves doing nothing and being quite handsomely paid for it.

He did so in his first year in the following three years he was shit. After that he was forced to go Turkey because nobody else was interested. This debate is too depressing to continue.

Yep. We got one good season out of him. At a push it could be argued that his third year wasn't too bad I guess but the rest of the time he was rubbish.

Its not a matter of justifying anything Squiggs. We could have brought him for say, £8m at the time, which would not have been unreasonable and put him on £45k a week , which again would not be unreasonable, which would add up to the same figure over the course of the contract. There is no such thing as a free lunch or a free transfer, it just means you can defer it monthly over 4 years with no big initial outlay.
He's cost us about £6m up to now on my workings out. If we don't want him we should cut our losses and get our money back, and we should get pretty close to that £4m-£5m.

I still stand by what I have said which is a completely different issue, I have not seen enough of him to brand him as a complete fairlure, and nor I would respectfully suggest has anyone else either.

Vlad, I suspect that with his injuries record of recent years and at this stage of his career (and age) we will not get to see much more of him (or enough of him) to make any educated call.
I'd only say that the little I've seen of him in our red was rather disappointing, and at this stage I wouldn't mind us moving him on.

We'd be fucking lucky to get 2-4m for him Vlad, & that'd be wiped out by us having to pay the difference in his wages to him, unfortunately.

I agree to a point that we have not seen enough to brand him as a complete failure but the fact is that the manager clearly sees no place for him. Part of me would be tempted to give him another go but that seems to be the way it is.

Given that I would rather he was not kept on as a highly paid reserve. These loan deals are shit really but if that is all we can do then that is all we can do basically. The other option I suppose would be to hang on to him until January and see if anyone seriously needs a player then and is willing to take him. I guess it depends on how much we need to reduce the wage bill.

Loan deals piss me off. Get rid of the fucker.
They piss everyone off but they only happen when we don't have a lot of choice. I suspect even if we cancelled his contract we would have to pay him off so at least this way - even if it goes on for years - we will be paying a reduced amount to him.

I just hope that the club learns from these stupid contract decisions from the past and is a bit more sensible from now on.

Strange. But what the hell, loan the fucker out if we can´t sell him. He doesn´t seem to be in Kennys plans so it´s probably good for us.

He was fit during his first year at Liverpool and consequently played very well scoring 11 goals.

QPR apperantly with a last ditch attempt to sign him.
On loan or permanent move?

Someone mentioned that Cole could take Eurostar from Lille to London. With them offering CL footy and a chance for Cole to rebuild his career, they look a much better prospect than QPR.

When Kenny took over I really thought it would be the start of cole's liverpool career and that kenny would get him going , he'd be his sort of player etc etc . But Kenny hardly used him which says it all . I mean you can count the good things he did here on one hand ...it's weird , his form just plummeted so badly .

But i wish him well as I've alot of respect for british players who move to the continent ...not enough of them do it for my liking and i don't fully know why.

Liverpool have been forced to take a major financial hit in allowing Cole to go on loan for the season, and have agreeing to continue paying around half of the player's wages.

That amounts to almost £50,000 a week for a player who will not even be in their squad
, but the gesture does strengthens the Kop's relations with Lille, which could prove important in the future.

The Reds are long-term admirers of the French club's exciting young winger Eden Hazard.

In-demand Hazard has chosen to stay for another season with the team, but is expected to leave next summer in a big-money transfer - and Liverpool now have a head-start in any deal.

Cole's not going there to play Champions' League football, he's there to tap Hazard up.

Sneaky Comolli.

9 - Joe Cole created nine goalscoring chances in 796 PL mins for Liverpool. Charlie Adam has six in 270 mins so far.
ha ha, good old joe

Came on in the 65th min for Payet, created Lille's 3rd goal vs. 10 men St Etienne. Hazard scored twice in the same match too.
