Joe Allen, LFC midfielders and midfield combinations and now the Jordan Henderson thread

Yeah I do, I thought I made it clear from the post that I'm just getting impatient. Besides, there's a difference between doing it when the start of August is upon us, and doing it during the first week of June like some idiots did. BIG difference.

Well similar comments have been made in the first week of June - we need to get our targets signed early at the risk of losing out on them. It that really asking for too much to a squad that badly needs new signings?
Could you not appreciate where the poster(s) was coming from before having a go at their posts?

Why? That's insane, so because we haven't signed them yet that means we're either not going to or we're still no nearer? That's guess work at best. As I said in my post that you just picked holes with, it's not just us that it takes time with. A few teams (notably Chelsea) have had a flurry of activity, the rest of the Premiership have barely dipped their toes in - yet.

Maybe because they don't need as much work done to their squad as we do?

Not really, in an ideal World we would, how many teams do you know that get most of their signings in at that stage? Barely any. There's reasons why it takes time. Holidays, tournaments, contractual reasons.

Not that I'll ever be particularly happy with what we did last Summer, but I remember similar rants, for us then to go off on one and sign a few players. We signed Enrique early August, and Bellamy on the final day, and sold Meireles, it happens. Like I said, I'm getting impatient because I just want to see us sign someone, but there's a way to go yet, a month infact. These things get drawn out, players don't like to force moves because it jeopardises their pay offs, clubs don't like to lose players and won't force moves, again, because they'd be contractually obliged to pay compensation to the player. And if, as suggested, we're as short on cash as is being reported, then haggling and taking time is necessary.

We need an attacking wide player and arguably another midfielder. It's the difference between us being where we are and being more complete, but let's not act like we've got a complete revolution on our hands - we haven't, we need to make a couple of tweaks.

Doesn't look like rodgers is going to buy any wide players. Looks like he wants us to pack the middle and overlapping fullbacks.

JOE Allen has agreed terms on a bumper contract with Liverpool as the midfielder edges closer to the Swansea City exit door. The Evening Post can reveal the Allen camp weregiven permission to speak to Liverpool last month.

And we understand the 22-year-old has settled on an Anfield deal which, a source explained, will “set him up for life”. However, though Swanseaallowed Allen’s representatives to talk termswith Liverpool, theyare still haggling over the size of the transfer fee.Liverpoolhave tabled an offer of £12.5 million plus a player on loan — thought to be Jonjo Shelvey — which, the Post understands, Swanseahave notrespondedtoofficially. Swanseaare diggingtheir heels in over the deal, and are thought likely to demand£15 million before allowing the Welsh international to join former boss Brendan Rodgers on Merseyside.

That is the sum which would trigger a release clause inAllen’sLibertyStadium contract. The clause states that if Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or one of the two Manchester clubs offer £15 million for Allen, Swanseamustsell. Swansea, though, mayyetsaynotoLiverpooleveniftheydoup their bid because of a clause in the compensation package agreed when Rodgers left for the Reds earlier this summer. Swanseasuggested last week thatLiverpool had broken an agreement between the two clubs by moving for Allen. The Post understands Rodgers was disappointed by that statement and believes he has done nothing wrong by registering an interest in the Pembrokeshire-born star. Swansea’s former manager is a huge Allen fan and, for all the wrangling, the likelihoodis that he will eventually get his man.

The player now appears to have his heart set on Liverpool, and it seems the move willhappenoncethe clubs settle ona fee.Swanseaare understandably playing hardball as they attempttogetevery pennypossible for a player they have nurtured since he was just nine years old. But the club’s hierarchy are also aware that it is difficult to hold on to someone whose headhas beenturned. The Allen situation is complicated further by a secondclause inthe four-year Swanseadeal he signed last summer. It states thatifany cluboutside the bigfive offers £10 million for his services, Swansea must sanction a deal. And given that Tottenham are thought to be interested, it is notinconceivable thattheycould lose Allen for a smaller fee than the £12.5 million-plus-player package which is alreadyonthe table.

Allen is in action for the TeamGB Olympic squad against Uruguaytonight, when a draw will be enough to see Stuart Pearce’s teamreachnext weekend’squarter-finals. It seems unlikely his club future will be sorted outbeforeTeamGB’s Olympic campaigncomes toanend.Liverpool were last night close to freeing up funds — plus a place in their squad — for Allen with midfielder Alberto Aquilani close to joining Fiorentina for £7 million. Michael Laudrup, meantime, has insisted that the Allen situation has not changed. “There’s no latest — he is with the GB team at the OlympicssoI have nothad the opportunitytotalktohim since I arrived,” the Swanseabosssaid. “There’s nothing concrete.I canreadthe papers talking about the interest — it’s normal thereisinterestbecause the new manager of Liverpool is the ex-manager of Joe Allen. We all know he is a very good player, but I can assure you there’s nothing concrete at this moment. Let’s see what happens — I can’t really tell you anythingelse right now.”

Phil McNulty @philmcnulty For all talk of Spurs interest in Swansea's Joe Allen there is only one place he is heading - Liverpool once manouevring over fee is done

It has to be Binnified to be official. Still a rumour and should be in the rumour thread.

Has not the Sigurdson thread taught us anything?

Sending a CM back their way on loan would be nice as they would get a great chance to be a vital part of that team. Chances are they wouldn't come back though!

Need this deal done quick. Hopefully england will get knocked out tonight. Also need a left sided player for the front 3 so that downing is benched.

I think Shelvey going there is a good plan, he could come back a monster, and he will want to play for us.

Shelvey definitely needs minutes on the pitch on a regular basis. Playing a few games here or there for us isn't going to help him at all.

I'll believe that the Allen deal is done when I see him in a Liverpool shirt at Anfield. Our extreme incompetence in transfer dealing knows no limits.

Joe Allen. Nice and tidy. But £12m? No. £15m even? Don't be daft. You really think Carroll and Henderson might have taught lfc a lesson.
