Joao Teixeira

I'm not getting into a Suso versus Teixeira, debate, because I'm a big fan of both of them, but I've thought for a while that Teixeira will make it first. He's tough, sharp and clever, and he's got a future here. Roll on when Suso appears, too.

we'll have a great squad next season without even buying anyone if they and ibe continue to improve

I was just as delighted last season when Suso came in and showed confidence and maturity beyond his years.
It's simply great to have very young squad players that are so technically gifted like them, rather than the workman like players we've had in the past. Happy days, and I hope they can both make it for us. I think Suso's ahead currently though.

We seem to have a lot of players with huge potential in the position, Suso, Alberto and now Texeria.
I doubt if we can develop/hold on to all of them

Suso and Teixeira are very different players imo.
Also, I'm not really sure they'll be competing for the same spot in the future

Expand please!
I think Teixeira is more direct than Suso, who likes to hold on to the ball.
Suso plays in a more deeper role for the Spanish u21s like Xavi or Alonso for their respective teams.
Of course its too early to tell but considering his long range passing, vision, ball control he might be more suited to play in a CM role.
He needs to get a bit stronger though.

If he does get stronger I'd like to see him there as well. Joe Allen's career with us would be over though.

With 10 minutes to go, at 2-2 in a must win game, the pressure to hide behind the efforts of teammates like Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho must have been immense. But he ran into intelligent positions, showed for the ball, and took responsibility for making a difference. Remarkable confidence on his debut.

Alberto has been sitting on the bench all season and hardly gotten a sniff of action. Interesting that Teixeira got an opportunity today.

I wonder why (well, apart from the fact that he must be impressing behind the scenes).... perhaps preparation for a go in the FA Cup or maybe Rodgers is thinking he needs more options for the run in.

Teixeira is proving himself in the reserves and in training.
I thought it was a bit weird that Brannagan and Rossiter were ahead of him in the first team.
When a player looks like he's head and shoulders above rest of the players in the reserves its time to take the next step.

Yeah, appreciate that.

I can't quite articulate why, but I just find it slightly odd timing plus to put him on first time when the game is on a knife edge was a little unusual.

Well Smith almost got the same treatment. Suso got his break against Man U. Brendan is a bit of a dick at times.

Yeah, that's true. I forgot about Smith's random cameo earlier this season.

Hopefully Teixeira doesn't disappear back into the reserves.

Very Coutinho esc it seems. Strangely enough he was the right sub, we needed more cute quick passing, and he offered us that.

I reckon he was gambling on a youngeter's natural exuberance producing something unexpected.

Not so sure about the Smith one though, made much less sense.

Sterlings first start for Liverpool was against City, under Rodgers, he really does like to throw them in the deepend, no coming on when we are 4-0 up at Anfield against cannon fodder.

Re: Suso. I notice he's collected 7 yellows in the La Liga so far. I wonder if that's from him putting himself about and committing fouls tackling and challenging, or if it's mainly from cynical / professional fouls and dissent. Anyone knows?

Maybe so. This was a bigger gamble for me - we needed the win today, weren't getting it, and we put on inexperience in place of our best player in the last couple of games. I respect Rodgers for doing it, and I think he was justified by Teixeira's reaction.
I do agree that the Smith one made little sense. I'd like to see Teixeira and Alberto both play against Arsenal, but judging from our lineup v Bournemouth I doubt that will happen.

Trying to win the ball back. His style is very English compared to the rest. I think he plans to return.
