January Window Speculation

Goretzka would be a fucking amazing signing for us. Totally fearless, physically dominant marauding CM. He’s the business but I think there’s a lot of clubs in for him in January. If we get him, we stand a chance of winning shit.
I want Goretzka and Oblak but my head would probably explode if this happened.

Goretzka joining Keita in CM would be the stuff of dreams. With those two playing ahead of a back three or four which now includes van Dijk I reckon our whole defensive set-up - including the keepers - could improve to the point of being unrecognisable from before, without reducing our attacking threat one bit. If we were able to get Oblak as well we should obv.have a go at doing so, but if we can't do both I'd prioritise Goretzka.

More than likely will go to Real Madrid in the summer
Real buying Kepe in January apparently.
Besides as Markeh says, I cannot see Oblak going from Atletico to Real, or not directly at least.

Really? Didn't think those two sold eachother a lot
They sold Theo Hernández to them, and how many more times can they try to get De Gae? Oblak has a buyout clause said to be around €100m, RM could easily meet that

I'd be delighted if we sign Goretzka, I do think there's another player we should casting our eyes on.
I've read that Ruben Neves has been brilliant for wolves.
Can't say I've seen him enough to give you a scouting report he's a player in Xabi mould, perfect option to anchor our midfield.

It'd be lovely to see De Gea go

There will be no more signings after this as we've spent nearly £200m

I don't get the Goretzka hype, he looks decidedly average every time I see him play.

Perfectly fair comment if that's what you've seen. I guess it depends what you're looking for. When I've watched him in action he's had an unfussy kind of competence about him which I like in a player - few frills or spectacular interventions, but everything he's done has been effective and others around him look to have benefited. He's also known to Klopp and is exactly the kind of MF (Keita's another) whom Klopp seems to be looking for to stiffen the midfield, namely not a specialist DM but an all-rounder whose more defensive contribution is good enough to render DMs unnecessary, very much on the German pattern.

Yeah I've been watching clips of his and I mentioned him here just the other day. He's been amazing for Wolves and is a superb play maker. I think he'd be ace for us but he's no DM.

Technically he is but no he's not the ngolo kante type.

Sorry if I don't rate your opinion here mate. I haven't seen enough of him to make my own mind up but there's no doubting he's one of the hottest properties in Europe at the moment (probably him being on a free is part of that) - which makes our chances of signing him pretty damn low.

Were there ever specific Oblak rumours or is he just mentioned because we like him?
There was one of those reports in August that we were ‘monitoring’ him along with a couple of other clubs but little more than that.

Whose Allison?
latest

@Frogfish
Add these player up and tell what figures you get?
The Ox + Salah + Robertson + VVD + Kieta
Keita's isn't payable until next Summer (so you add it up now) and I'm also referring to your statement re. no more cash, as if last season's budget includes that of 2018.

Thats good to read, I think the problem I have is that I watched him after people started hyping him, so was expecting a world beater, and unfortunately I haven't seen much that puts him ahead of Can, admittedly I've only watched two games with him in though, so i'm hardly qualified to say, I'm just worried we're selling ourselves another sexy German on a free and giving him a bit of a free pass as a result. I'll make an effort to watch him again bearing in mind what you wrote in this post, because thats exactly what I want to see in a midfielder, a strong and consistent midfielder who's competent going forward and back, basically Jordan Henderson but a level up, as unglamourus as that sounds.
