Liverpool are watching Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema's situation.
France international Benzema has been discussed at Anfield, with new football chief Damien Comolli a big fan of his countryman.
The Reds are eying a loan move for the 23-year-old French international with an option for a permanent purchase at the end of the season.
His failure to secure a first-team place under Jose Mourinho has even caused conflict between the Real coach and general director Jorge Valdano.

I was just thinking about whether we should be interested in Benzema while watching Real grind a 1:0 win against Mallorca at the Bernabeu. Benzema scored the winning goal (only his second of the season in Premira and I thought it was somewhat lucky) and briefly looked rejuvenated, then he badly wasted 3 more good chances and dropped his head again. I think Karim is really uncomfortable playing as a center-forward, he needs to be stationed on the left wing, run into space and have the ball at his feet - he likes to have many touches on the ball, that's why he has trouble scoring from inside the penalty area, by the time he gets his customary 3 touches, defenders are all over him. Considering that we have a chronic problem with the left wing, that might be a good fit.
However, somehow I don't get the feeling that Benzema will play for Liverpool.

On form, he's a brilliant centre-forward, and one-touch passing is one of his best features.
He's been short of confidence (partly because short of gametime) for so long now, though, that it might take a while to bring the real Benzema back. I also seriously doubt whether Real would let him go this month - they need more strikers, not less.
