Jan transfers (all other clubs bar Liverpool)

Villa’s signings are a bit desperate, don’t see anything there to build on. They seem keen to keep living on that 96% PSR too.

So close to sustained Champions League revenue and so close to relegation to the Championship due to financial irregularities.

Meh...Until we know who goes and who stays, getting a striker is pointless.
Who do you think we will see leave in the summer?
Nunez
Trent
Gomez maybe, wants to start before the world cup.
Endo definitely.
Either Robbo or Tsimikas.
Diaz
Chiesa
Kelleher

Several kids.

Don’t think Endo will leave - I think Slot has grown in appreciation for him. Hopefully Gomez stays.

Chiesa might stay, but on the other hand there is a case for selling Jota if Edwards and Hughes feel ruthless.

So expected first team departures:
Nunez
Trent
Diaz
Tsimikas
Kelleher

And maybe:
Chiesa or Jota
Endo or Gomez, but hopefully both stay

We won't sell both our strikers and Slot likes Jota.
Endo is definitely off.

Yes, Slot definitely likes Jota, but Hughes/Edwards might argue that there is a real risk we’ll end up with a Thiago situation at some point with Jota - if he’s this injury-prone at his physical peak, what will happen past the peak?

Let’s hope you’re wrong on Endo.

Is Diaz really “expected” to leave?

Also despite him being the player he is, I think there’s a possibility that Nunez stays, on the grounds that there’s really isn’t much else out there that’s a

Outside of the Contract 3, I think we’re looking at a LB and a midfielder to replace Endo long term (but we might give McConnell that shot) - I do wonder how many other players we’ll look to move on.

Maybe a CB, depending on what our current collection are up to.

Just realized all this discussion is happening in the wrong thread 😀

And right on cue (and in the correct thread), @King Binny posted a Sam McGuire article claiming that we are planning a summer overhaul with Nunez, Diaz and possibly Jota all sold…

I don’t know who Sam Maguire is or how accurate Anfield Watch is, but given that since Edwards, Hughes & Slot all got their feet under the table, the one thing that’s constant is that absolutely nothing is getting out as to what our plans are until we are well down the track to finalising them.

I could also absolutely assure you the club would not be openly talking about who’s getting moved on in the summer while we’re in the midst of a 4-pronged assault on trophies - it would make no sense to potentially unsettle players.

So… I reckon he’s speculating and hasn’t a clue, but tweeting an article that says “I don’t know what we’re doing” isn’t gonna gets those likes and re-tweets.

I'm his source

Didn't think any of the Maguire piece was news?

I always expected the club to try and shift Nunez (not good enough) and diaz (inconsistent end product but high value), and listen to offers for Jota (too injury prone). Listening to offers doesn't mean want them gone, just means we could be tempted.

I can see us going for an established 9 and a 19/20 year old 9 as well.

Left wing? Gakkers and potentially clearing the decks for Rio. Potential long term planning which is something we rarely do

The RB situation we possibly could muddle by if Trent goes. Bradley steps up, Joemez as backup.

Left back? Strongly linked to Hato, so no doubt the transition from Robbo/tsimi to Hato will happen over the course of the season

Cm? Again, we could muddle through.

Cb? Hopefully vvd, Konate, Gomez, quansah, potentially Hato could be more than enough

if the offers don't come in we won't sell, but I can see it.

No idea how much of that McGuire piece is speculation, to be honest, but the fact that Diaz has more or less lost his favoured position to Gakpo makes me think he will go - he won’t want to stay to play at false #9 for yet another season, will he? Plus he did seem to be interested in a move elsewhere previously; I could see him fitting in well in Spain or Italy (too bad PSG option is now gone with Kvaratskhelia there).

I think Nunez is gone no matter what. And I have a feeling one of Jota or Chiesa will go too. So even if Salah stays, that’s 3 out of 5 attackers who will need replacing.

So yeah, while it doesn’t seem ideal to overhaul a big chunk of a team all at once, sometimes that’s just how the cards fall - and, as we saw in summer 2023 with our midfield overhaul, sometimes the results of that wholesale rebuild can be not just good, but actually spectacular.
We signed MacAllister, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai and Endo all in one summer - with some luck and plenty of preparation we could potentially pull off a similar coup in attack.

Diaz will be 29 next season and if we expect some big offers this summer it makes sense to sell. Of the 3 I’d keep Jota I reckon.

Salah will sign up, Jota and Danns second choice 9, which means Nunez out new 9 in. Diaz out and pathway for Ngumoha created with Chiesa being support left/right wing.

Exactly.
With Diaz it's about his age and the contract situation. He's underpaid and we won't offer him a new contract (exp 2027). So the only logical thing is to sell or do what the old regime did and let his contract run out.

Also I'm sure Gomez is going to have a rethink this summer. He wants international football and he's not first choice at LFC.
He admitted that he was very close to leaving before the season started. So I'm guessing it was a "give us one more year" type thing.
Gomez is from London, so I think that'll be his destination. I'm thinking Chelsea primarily, he'd walk into their line up and they need experience in the team.

Edit: Just googled Gomez to Chelsea got this:

[Paul Joyce]🚨 Chelsea have shown an interest in Joe Gomez alonsgide with Newcastle, Villa, Fulham and clubs from abroad.

chelsea are interested in every cunt

I can see villa or newcastle being the ones

Come summer, too many outgoings and incoming will lead to a transition phase
Outgoings imho
Moreton
Kev
Gordon
Doak
Robbo
Diaz
Trent
Unless some ridiculous offer comes for Nunez he stays. I could see Ali going too but again t would have to be big offer... Ali is a church man, if he does go Saudi, there is no Church

Chelsea are preparing a 50m euro (£41.6m) bid for 25-year-old Bournemouth and Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo. (Fichajes - in Spanish)
