It's fairly obvious what is going on. Based on Pete's info and Rafa's comments, the possibility of Torres requiring surgery is much more likely than Rafa wants to admit, and that is completely understandable.

That being the case he is in a very difficult position, as to what to do for the best.

Update from Daily Mirror today:

"Torres is facing abdominal surgery unless a three week programme of treatment relieves the pain and restriction of his sportsmans hernia. The condition has badly hindered the Spanish striker over the past month, but boss Rafael Benitez is hopeful therapy will rule out the need for an operation.

Surgery would sideline Torres for at least a month, and he could be on the injured list for up to three months"

I heard the other day that there was a difference of opinion between Torres and LFC over the choice of treatment. LFC wanted him to have the op, he refused - hence the second opinion in Spain.
 
I would have thought he'd want the op. That'dd mean he's defo fit for world cup in the summer.
