Can we recall Bellamy and Crouch too?

Lol !

Rafa Benitez has confirmed that Fernando Torres could be out until December, but he will not be having an operation.

Torres has been plagued with a groin injury, which he has aggravated in recent weeks.

He visited a specialist in Spain last week, and together with Liverpool's medical staff they have decided to rehabilitate him without surgery.

However, Benitez does not know whether he will be fit to face Manchester City in two weeks' time.

"He has to work with the physios and try to improve and be ready," Benitez said.

"We are not talking about an operation at this moment, we're talking about treating him properly.

"I don't know if he will be ready for Man City (in two weeks).

"The only thing I can say is we're talking about two or three weeks working with the physios.

"We haven't got a deadline, we just need to see how he is every day."

Benitez was buoyed by the return of captain Steven Gerrard to action on Monday evening in the draw with Birmingham.

"I think he will be okay," said Benitez.

"We have to check. There's small things but I think he'll be okay."

Worry
However, the Liverpool boss confessed that he was very worried about Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun, who both limped out of their clash with Birmingham due to hamstring injuries.

"Riera had the same problem as before. The players are sometimes available but not 100 per cent ready," he said.

"We thought he was okay but in the end you can see he wasn't.

"Yossi has the same problem as Riera. Some players are playing too many games in a row. They are working very hard and so you always have this risk. I think both will have tears.

"Dan Agger also had a problem with his back. It's not serious but he felt it a little bit."

I hope Torres misses the World Cup.

Leave it out he needs to have something to look forward to.

Ha.

I'd still rather he had the summer off (sorry Fernando).

Is Benitez being 'evasive'? I can't see what else he could say at this stage.

"Where's the rope"

It's just getting a little silly now. We've got the one of the best players in the world, yet we can't seem to keep him on the pitch for long.

It might be selfish but i'd just like him to get a nice long rest this summer (same goes for SG).

I wonder why his basic comments were construed as evasive when they were typical comments about such an injury. One poster on here says he heard something and immediately the manager's comments to the contrary are dismissed as evasive. I don't see the logic.

I guess the lack of clarity makes people question whether Rafa genuinely doesn't know or whether he's being deliberately evasive.

But all the bloke was saying is he's been to a specialist, an operation is not yet needed and he's getting treatment. I honestly don't mean to start an argument, but I don't see why that's evasive. You can't say 'He'll get treatment and definitely be back on this date'. It's not like saying 'we need to explore some things'. It's surely clear enough. This other rumour may be right, who knows, but I don't see what is in the actual comments to make people suspicious.

If he's not going to have an operation, then why on earth should he need to rest for 3 months?? That doesn't make any sense at all. Because that would have to be the answer to the Carra comments.

He hasn't had the operation yet, and Rafas comments points that out. I don't think it's true tbh. That kind of injury doesn't warrant so many months on the sidelines.

Reds keen to avoid Torres surgery

Torres has not been selected in the Spain squad for their upcoming games
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez says Fernando Torres will have three weeks of treatment on a groin injury, calming fears the striker needs surgery.

The striker missed Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Birmingham on Monday and Benitez confirmed to BBC Radio 5 live that he had started treatment on the problem.

"Torres was not confident and we have now started a three-week course of treatment," said Benitez.

"We will have to see how he reacts. We are not considering an operation yet."

Exactly, I had the same injury 3 years ago and I was out for about 2 to 2 and a half months. But I didn't have any physio or any of the facilities that professional footballers get. The pro's are normalluy back playing within 6 weeks.

The article that was posted a few days ago seems to be spot on, it's something that can require invasive surgery, it's something it is possible to do laproscopic surgery for, and it's sometimes also not necessary to do the surgery at all.

Worst of all worlds is that we give him this three weeks, we are back at square one, and he has the surgery anyway.

Phew. As long as it doesn't require evasive surgery that's all right

Ha.

Is this the worst injury crisis in our history?

Yes i think so, since Souness.
