"It's complicated"? -- No it isn't, fuck off Barca - £113 Million bid rejected

To me the fact that Coutinho agreed to a new deal without a release clause backs up the idea that he won't be inclined to force a move. I'd rather he didn't go at all, but I'm resigned to it eventually PROVIDED Klopp's OK with the timing. His discussions with FSG before taking the job will have covered eventualities such as this.

Of course, if we win the Prem next season, you never know what the consequences might be. 😉

Would Coutinho have been more likely to stay if his mate Lucas was still in Liverpool?

But do we want Neymar.... A prank who' s father decides that the Uruguayan that is better to Line up with is Cavanelli because it pays better?
I was only joking. Of course they wouldn't swap players and that's exactly why i would have proposed it. Neymar wouldn't come to us anyway so fuck it the deals off. Catalan time wasters

I completely believe the stories that said Coutinho is happy here and believe in Klopps vision and loves the fans etc and had no intention of leaving. I also believe he could have had his head turned by Barca if they went on a charm offensive. I don't think he'll leave just yet though, and next summer, would he really want to leave the reigning European champions?

Nah. I can just about put up with half the 18 to 25 year olds round here walking round like there's a loaf of bread baking on their head because of Coutinho, but if they all turned into Manga characters when Neymar turned up I'd need to move.

The idea that Coutinho somehow doesn't "fit" is ridiculous.

So is this notion that managers will want to build an exact carbon copy of previous teams. They might well have an idea of how they want to set up, but the best managers will also work out how to incorporate their best players. People used to say Gerrard wasn't a Rafa player because he was conservative, while Stevie was a bit more impulsive and direct. Gerrard went on to forge one of the most lethal partnerships in recent history with Torres, under the same manager.

Klopp tried to change when he lost players at Dortmund, he didn't try to buy similar players in every instance, he bought different types of players, to varying degrees of success.

He'd already said after the final game that he had spoke to Coutinho about using him in different roles this season. It's obvious the preferred front three will be Salah-Firmino-Mane, but you can put Coutinho on the left, or behind the front three, or even deeper in midfield. He's a technically gifted player with an eye for a pass, the ability to score goals and pop up with a moment of genius to win games, AND he works hard off the ball. That sounds exactly like the sort of player any manager would relish working with.

The Barca mouthpiece Is reporting terms agreed with the player...

Ohhhhhhh UEFA......

If Coutinho goes it might arguably make it easier for Klopp to build a better, more balanced starting 11.

Klopp strikes me as someone that likes the underdog tag and the idea of rebuilding with his back against the wall might give him a boner, for a brief period. The realisation that the club is incapable of signing his preferred players (due to a myriad of reasons) would be the final nail in the coffin.
You cant rebuild if you lose your best player every year.
Mascherano, Alonso, Suarez, Sterling, Torres all set us back. Its no coincidence we dont win the league. Big teams dont sell their talent.

It's been 27 years. After that long, it's nothing to do with losing players and everything to do with it not being worth the financial risk of trying to rebuild when we can play it safe and milk very similar money from our past reputation and history.

Ive been saying that for ages Edmond.

Our owners dont give a shit if we win things.
Keep there or there abouts and make bare P off the club.

I think they do. They probably just haven't got the cash to get us consistently to the Chelsea and Man City level, so we end up having to live within our means. Which then translates to not winning (many) things. I'm not sure they would take a whole bunch of money out of the club.

I dont buy that for a second. If you think FSG arent profiting HEAVILY from the way they are running the club you are insane.

And im not blaming them. Why should they give a good fuck?

The real question is why do we?

Be a billionaires plaything and win. Or be a mug who believes their non billionaire owned club really wants to win anything.

We are a profit making organisation. An asset. Nothing more.

And what has happened to the market this year (contrary to what Levy is spouting) means there is now ZERO risk for owners to make it look like they are spending big.

There is now no risk to us signing Keita for 70m and Van Dijk for 60m because we have 130m worth sitting just in Coutinho and Can. So they can appease the fans with a couple of big signings, then sell Coutinho. Cover the bases.
Those two players (even if we do sign them) are a sticking plaster)

I want to believe.......... but....

What its going to take is City levels of spending. And we KNOW this.

I honestly have no idea but would wager they are not profiting heavily. But you may have seen figures, of course.

Modo seems to be targeting Klopp as his new 'pet hate'. (pet hate used very loosely there). It's an interesting choice though.
Klopp has just sold Lucas, he continues to favour Henderson and Lallana and now Coutinho doesn't 'fit' the system so might be sold. Hmmmm.

Yes, I've seen this coming too. He'll turn on Klopp pretty quickly this season.
