"It's complicated"? -- No it isn't, fuck off Barca - £113 Million bid rejected

I've always wondered if Modo 'actually' supported Liverpool. He likes some players who play / played for us and supports them and doesn't care too much for the club. Whereas a lot on here, love the club and hate all the players.

I hope we don't sell Coutinho anyway. As Woland said, we'll convince him to stay one more year and agree to sell him next year or something. He'll also have the CL to showcase his talents this season.

We don't want to sell Coutinho. We don't need to sell Coutinho.

We didn't want to sell Suarez. We didn't need to sell Suarez.

We didn't want to sell Torres. We didn't need to sell Torres.

As you can see, there isn't any difference in circumstances at all. If Coutinho wants to join Barcelona, and is willing to try and force a move, then he's going to Barcelona sooner or later.

We might make another useless statement or contract offer - although he signed a new one six months ago - but it will be meaningless. At best we'll get one more season out of him.

I'm pretty sure we did need to sell Suarez the summer we sold him. He signed a new contract after his flirtation with Arsenal and it is apparent there was a clause there waiting for Barcelona to trigger.

There's a perfectly valid point in Modo's initial post.

Frankly, I'm disappointed in the posters who justify it because "everyone else does it too".

Let's just admit that being hypocritical and biased is part of the inherently dumb position of being a football fan and leave it there.

I'm sure you are all much better humans outside of this fantasy world of modern footy.

It's probably the most effective way of getting a player in. I imagine that's why it's so rife.

Which is exactly why selling him would be insane. Even if we got £100m it would just inflate the fees for VVD and Keita further. He has a long contract to run, we don't need the money so if Barca want this to happen he's going to have to lodge a transfer request and they will have to put another £20m ontop of that offer.

Mate, it's good to see you back, but sorry - this is uncharacteristically supercilious nonsense. Such excessive scruple would condemn us to remaining in the second rank of football for ever, and one doesn't need to be either a hypocrite or some kind of mindless "superfan" to be unwilling to accept that.

Indeed. That's a very bizarre position to take up. The inhumanity of speaking to a player behind a clubs back!

I'd hope he will give us one more season under Klopp and in the CL. But no doubt he will go there eventually, if they continue to want him.

If we sell him we have to get "TOP DOLLAR"... no point in selling for a pittance. 72M is a pittance in this market. Plus Don't Inter get a portion of the proceeds?

Liverpool reject £72m Barcelona bid for Philippe Coutinho: ‘we aren’t a selling club’
• Playmaker signed new contract worth £150,000 a week last season
• Jürgen Klopp: ‘We want to make the next step and we need to stay together’

Jürgen Klopp has said Liverpool are not a selling club after rejecting an €80m (£72m) bid from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho. Liverpool are adamant the Brazilian playmaker will stay at Anfield irrespective of a higher bid from the Spanish club.
Barcelona have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old since the turn of the year but their opening offer was immediately rejected by Liverpool, who insist Coutinho is not for sale at any price. He signed a new five-year contract at Anfield only last season.

Coutinho’s latest contract, worth around £150,000 a week, does not contain a release clause but Liverpool have been braced for a move from Barcelona, who view the player as a long-term replacement for Andrés Iniesta. The Brazil international is close friends with the Barcelona duo Neymar and Luis Suárez, who made the move from Merseyside in 2014.

Speaking in Hong Kong on Friday, where Liverpool are competing in the Premier League Asia Trophy, Klopp said: “Yes [Coutinho is not for sale] but that’s not since this morning or yesterday, it’s not been any different. Phil is a very important player for us. He’s trying to get back his rhythm but there’s no doubt about his quality. He’s very smart both offensively and defensively. The nice news for us is that he’s still young. He has improved a lot since I’ve been here and he can still improve a lot.
“I’m not surprised that any club is interested in players at Liverpool. The very important message is that we are not a selling club and that’s how it is. We believe in working together and developing together. We want to make the next step together and for this we need to stay together. We have to create a situation where everybody is easily able to see which direction we want to go. It’s really positive. This is a fantastic club and it’s a good moment for Liverpool.”
Liverpool have sold key talents in the recent past – Suárez, Raheem Sterling and Fernando Torres – but unlike that trio Coutinho has not pushed for a transfer and has repeatedly stated his contentment at Anfield. He said in May: “Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more. I have a long contract with Liverpool.”

Klopp’s stance on Coutinho is similar to RB Leipzig’s position on the Liverpool target Naby Keïta, with the Bundesliga club rejecting a £66m offer from Anfield for the midfielder earlier this week. Liverpool, however, have continued to pursue a deal for the Guinea international despite being informed directly by Leipzig officials that Keïta will not be sold this summer.

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of the Scotland left-back Andy Robertson from Hull for an initial £8m, rising to a possible £10m, with his former club Dundee United due 10% of the fee. Liverpool’s midfielder Kevin Steward has moved in the opposite direction in a separate transfer in a deal worth up to £8m.

Fucking hell. This might all happen. If we sell coutinho for 100+, I'm fine with that, but who the fuck would we go for? Dybala maybe?

We have no chance of getting Dybala.

The problem with selling Coutinho is that we'll find it hard to buy someone of equivalent ability irrespective of how much money we get.

We had loads of money when we sold Suarez and it didn't help us all that much.

What?! The money we got from Suarez was spent the wrong way.

Yep. Unless there is an adequate replacement, even £120m isn't worth it.

I thought you meant that the money we got from Suarez couldn't get us any good players.

Well, it didn't.

There isn't a whole lot of point in arguing who we might have gotten. We went all out for Sanchez, failed, and seemingly struggled to get anyone else.
