when was kuyt's last goal? to be fair kuyt gets me a guaranteed 2 points every week in my fantasy football team.

we really need him, and he's been struggling like he was last year at this time period ...

it's a pity we're relying on a semi-fit torres and inconsistent yossi because no one else is capable of doing anything currently.

When some of the more logical posters called for the purchase of a true 'quality right sided midfielder' this summer - we were told that there was no need as our centre forward, Dirk, was more than capable.

oh

Kuyt is and always will be a steady eddy. When the teams playing well he's great to have in the team as he keeps plodding along and getting us some important goals. When the team's not playing so well, he's not gonna be the payer that steps up, raises the par and gets us out of trouble.

No doubt he's going through a bad patch, what gets him out of jail is the fact that he runs his socks off every game.....But that's where we fall behind the other "TOP 4", we do not have a good enough squad to rotate out-of-form or tired players.

i think he has been one of the more consistant of a bad bunch so far this year.

im very defensive over Kuyt as he gives it his all unlike others and has been FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR from the worst player in the last few weeks.

Yes but I forgive him because he NEVER stops trying.

And he wiped chalk of Torres' face the other day.

I think it was more or less the fact that we all knew he was one of the first names on the team sheet so we knew it wouldnt be a priority for Rafa. I think its fair to say he's having a poor run at the moment....but its not a case of if we had bought a 'quality right sided midfielder' we'd be fine now. Everyone goes through bad patches...even the best players...dirks no different......he's in with a shout of taking the armband on monday night, so hopefully he can start to turn it all around from there!!

That's absolute bollocks. Dirk and Yossi both had the season of their lives, and are both capable of playing at RW. So RW was way, way down our list of priorities this summer, especially seeing as Johnson was signed to add more dynamism and flair down the flank.

On another point, lets bear in mind Dirk Kuyt doesn't have form or deserve criticism for it. He's simply amazing all of the time.

There is not much competition for his place either. I think we need another option for the right preferably someone with pace to burn. Lennon would be a good signing they can have babel in exchange if they like.

I agree totally. Having a speedy option on the right would help us a lot. Babel should fill that spot but I would prefer something better.

To me he is an average player which sometimes (not often) hit a superform.

He's much better than average.

the problem isn't just his lack of form - it's that rafa will never drop him regardless of how shit he plays.

If not scoring = Kuyt's poor form then yes. However, there is more to his game and he has been much better than most even if he did cause the second Fulham goal.

I don't think he is, I think some players can be made to look poor by the form of the team. He's missing the impact of Gerrard and Torres, they're key to our attacking play and Kuyt feeds off that (and can also be instrumental in it too).

It's like anything, if all the parts aren't there, it's not gonna work. If a table has got a leg or two missing, what good are the other legs? The table's still going to fall over. (Apologies for the Rafa-esque analogy)

I think it's fair to say that the space created by Gerrard and Torres does help him a lot, but all things considered, he's still not been particularly good this season.

We always said that our squad was going to rely on last seasons over-achievers carrying their form into this season and so so far, the only one that has managed that has been Yossi.

I know we have a lot of Dirk fans on this site. He gives something to this team that few can but I think it's time we consider Dirk Kuyt's role as a 'fixture' in our 1st eleven ... We are not a good enough team that we afford to have players who get stuck in 2/3 months of poor form. Last year we had the same thing before Dirk gave us brilliant performances as the season reached its climax.

But fucking true. He's passed the to the opposition and even out of play. He can't stay onside even when he's been looking right across the line and he's run out of puff.

I'm getting the hump with him.

kuyt's slumps are as regular as fucking clockwork, his saving grace being his work rate which keeps him in the team when others would have been hooked so fast their feet wouldn't touch the ground.
