So...

Cyprus V Ireland
Scotland V Macedonia
Poland V N. Ireland

Massive MASSIVE game for Ireland in Nicosia. Yes, we've got Italy at home to come but this is the big one. Get a win in Cyprus (which is possible) and we could still win this group. Italy have a tough game in Georgia.

N. Ireland, 2nd in their group, need to not lose basically. A result in Poland would be fantastic, and still pretty much leave it in their hands.

Scotland are shite, but are remarkably still in with a great chance of finishing 2nd, despite having only accumulated 7 points from 6 games. Pathetic really.

Anyway, here's a link to all the tables if you're interested - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/tables/default.stm

Ha, remarkably enough I forgot about England.

Anyway, haven't they got a friendly on Saturday against some shit Eastern European time? Who gives a fuck about friendlies really.

Oh yeah, forget about England but remember all the Celts!

To be fair, yeah it's Slovenia on saturday and then Croatia in the week I think, I doubt I'll watch much of either, might watch the Croatia match.

To be fair, England have pretty much qualified anyway.

In fact they could probably lose points and still make it to SA. Croatia at home without Modric shouldn't cause them too many problems. Will be interesting to see if Capello goes with the players in form - Defoe, Lennon and the likes.

I'm still in shock from the 5-2 defeat in Cyprus 3 years ago. Previous to that, on our last visit to Cyprus, Shay Given single-handedly won us 3 points with the best ever goalkeeping display (including a penalty save) in a narrow 1-0 win.

To say I'm not confident is an understatement. Trappatoni has done an amazing job to get this very limited squad into such a strong position in the group although this has been made easier by Bulgaria being in a transitional phase.

I reckon we could lose but will probably get a point - a win is unlikely.

I predicted all along that Norn Iron would qualify from this tough group and I stand by that. Poland away is a very tough game and it's easy to make a csae for a comfortable 2 goal victory for the Poles but depending on the team they put out I can see the Irish getting something from this game.

Scotland are piss-poor and their result is irrelevant as the 2nd place team in that group will be the one eliminated (only 8 of the 9 second place teams qualify for the play-offs - the 2nd place team with the worst record loses out).

Brazil vs Argentina will be an interesting one.

Brazil are in cruise control whilst Argentina really do need a win to make sure they're not leaving qualification up to chance.

Israel vs Latvia -

Benayoun will again be heavily relied up ton get anything done. I had high hopes for this campaign, but the manager has really made some glaring mistakes (or the team just isn't that good). We need 2 wins in the next 2 games and we can perhaps knock Switzerland from the 2nd spot. Doubtful, but you never know.

Sven really killed any interest in England matches for me. Those friendlies made pre-season matches seem meaningful. And yes, I feel pretty ambivalent about the others, too. Internationals are going the way of Test Matches.

Denmark v Portugal should be good 'ol family entertainment.

Hopefully we'll send Ronaldo & Co. into oblivion.

IF the greasy waiter and his fellow countrymen and nationalized Brazilians should fail to win this one I can't see them qualify for the World Cup really.

Is it abnormal for be to be completely ambivalent of these up and coming internationals?

I and everyone I speak to is as well. They've just become an unwanted distraction these days.

Though I can see were you are coming from I must admit the timing on this break seems to be in our favour really.

Skrtl, Agger, Aurelio and Aquilani will all be a step close to recovery and Torres and his fellow compatriots will get a few more game in their legs before our next game.

All in all this break will make us stronger.

I hope there is no crowd trouble at the Poland game, there have been a lot of threats made....

Isnt it ironic that Israel will miss 2 WC in a row because of Switzerland.
If we beat Greece on Sat., I think we'll make it.
Liechteiner suspended and Inler very doubtfull. Still feasible.

Have the Swiss improved much since Euro '08?

Not really but we got quite an easy group.
Solid team, good manager. If we go through, Im going to South Africa.

Cool, I hope you qualify although I am tempted to back Greece to beat you. I wasn't at all impressed with the creativity in the Swiss team last summer and if you haven't improved that much it might be worth a small wager as the Greeks are a decent enough outfit.

I noticed that, it's a strange group with all teams capable of beating each other. No disrespect intended but it looks like a very weak group.

I fucking hate internationals. The only good thing with this one is that Aquilani will be back one week sooner (so to speak).

Nah - both times I think Israel was the equal team and was let down more by managerial tactics than the squad's ability.

Switerland will probably draw tomorrow but if win our games out - we could finish 2nd, and besides Switzerland, it's definitely doable.

I'm looking forward to watching England.

I think we're going somewhere good under Capello.
