What a start to the season for Dumfries

d.jpg

Half our squad are off playing for their countries and we play our next game on Saturday at lunch time? Away too...

Not too worried about our European players but our South Americans will travel back on Wednesday.
They pretty much have two days to prepare.
I expect Klopp to do some rotating.
The south Americans will be on the bench, except Allison.
Gakpo will probably start, with Jota and Salah.

Yeah he's always been a bit of a machine tbh, the Dutch Maicon. His energy and power up and down that right side is as good as I've seen from a wingback....was one of their star players at the WC.

Inter are no mugs by any means but I'll be surprised if he's not on the move next summer to a Utd or Bayern.

Ireland... it's the hope that will kill you.
How did we play?

Ferguson has played three "official" games and three "non official" games so he's I thought he's locked in. His Dad is Irish and he grew up in Ireland. But his Mum is English..

But if he plays for Brighton next week, I'll still be concerned.

The Athletic Reported Last Week

"Previously, the lines regarding international eligibility were blurred. However, in September 2020, FIFA Congress approved new regulations that stated that if a player made more than three appearances at “A” international level (or senior level), “whether in an official competition or non-official competition”, they could not change association. Some Ireland supporters were unsure whether that included friendlies which, as Ferguson has only made three competitive appearances (as well as three friendlies), prompted concern. However, as friendlies count as “non-official competition”, they have nothing to panic about — he is no longer eligible to represent England.

Had he not yet played for the senior team, Ferguson would still be eligible to represent England at senior level as youth appearances — his were all for Ireland — are not relevant to the changing of association. Regulations are one thing, a player’s desires are another. In this case, Ferguson has never had any intention of representing England at international level. In an interview with Sky in May, he said: “Obviously, my mum’s English, so that’s where the tie comes in. I’ve seen a few saying, ‘Oh, will he? Will he?’. I can tell you now, it’s a no.” Joking about his dad not being keen on the prospect, he added: “I wouldn’t be allowed back (to Ireland)!”

As well as Grealish, Declan Rice made the switch and, unlike the Manchester City winger, he played for Ireland at senior level. He played the entirety of his youth international career for the country of his dad’s parents but made the controversial decision to play for England in February 2019 after earning three caps under Martin O’Neill in 2018. Fans in both countries may remember Jack Grealish represented Ireland at under-17, under-18 and under-21 level through his Irish grandparents. However, as he began to make his mark at Aston Villa, he switched allegiances and was called up to England’s under-21 side before becoming a senior international in September 2020."

Dom is going to win a Ballon D’Or or three before he is done. His speed and technical ability are out of this world.

Wow have we been hard up in midfield for a while. A bit of style comes in and we think they are the second coming of messi.

The thing that convinced me he’s going to be (if not already) world-class is his ball retention. @King Binny will correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I remember his successful pass percentage in the 4 games he played for us didn’t drop below 90% once. For a creative player who takes a fair amount of risks in the final third, tries to play through-balls, tries to score himself AND works his bollocks off defensively this is such an elite trait. Like Modric-level elite.

Every midfielder has a trade-off somewhere - creative, but loses the ball often (Bruno), safe but not creative (Wijnaldum) or a great all-around passer, but lacks athleticism (Dani Ceballos) or has all the tools, but is a lazy bastard (Pogba). So far Szoboszlai doesn’t seem like he has a weakness.

He's ridiculously good looking though. That's always a red flag for me.

Averaging 86.1% pass completion - still very high

The players you mention - we think that of them all, Gini could offer more if he was allowed to and - well we saw what he could do if unleashed or decided to be angry and not follow Klopp's instructions. I think the truth of the matter is really simple and no one likes to hear this, our previous midfielders and especially our former captain was very limited as a midfielder with technical ability. Some of you may cry and scream at this, but it's the truth, and the knock on affect of having limited midfielders is that strikers have to work extra hard to create chances and find space. For Mo, the arrival of ball playing midfielders could not have come sooner, as he loses pace with age.

Was always gonna get the harsh treatment after making himself referee enemy number 1.

You really believe impartiality exists amongst these crooks?

He should just take it on the chin, smile and get on with it. That's the way it should work, apparently. Probably should have gave the ref a highfive for letting him stay on the pitch too. Or something.

Nusa with two assists in the first half against Georgia.
This kid is gonna be a superstar.
