Finnan never really started emerging as a top Premiership performer until he was, what? 26/27?
Most good full backs do not hit their peak until their mid-twenties.
It takes some time to learn the necessary skills to be good at the position.
Cole, Finnan, Neville all improved season on season and all reached a top level.
I am not saying Insua is in their league, but it is a valid point. At 21 he has years to improve many aspects of his game.

he's rubbish. fat, slow and clumsy. its piss easy to drag him out of position and if isn't presented with ZERO opposition he passes it sideways. RUBBISH.
I thought you liked fullbacks that can't defend?
they get a pass if they can attack, which rules out insua.
you're such a tease marky, I liked finnan (before he went rubbish) arbeloa and my favorite right back ever was babbel.

Well hes carrying weight, isn't very quick, gets caught flat footed and square 2 or 3 times a game but is ok going forwards at times. Alot of improvement is needed here.
I don't know. Arbeloa was never a favourite of mine either.

Riise was better at 20 than Insua, though
Probably. Maybe. I don't know.

Either way Insua's more skilfull on the ball than Riise ever was. Yes he makes clumsy mistakes and yes he wanderes into all the wrong areas of the pitch - but when on the ball it's obvious he's got quite an ammount of talent. He's quite clever in his movements as well in the build-up play making good use of his quick foot-work.

His crossing-game looks far better than any fullback we've had for years too. Riise for all his talents often passed the ball into no-mans land and rarley made it to the byline before attempting the hit.

He's VERY young for a first-team regular, which is what he's been this season. Too young, evidently, in his case. I do see some talent there, so I've voted 'potential first-team regular', but his lack of height and pace are definite points against him.
I'm personally not so bothered about his height and not so much about his overall pace either. One of the best fullbacks in the past decade in Argentinian Javier Zanetti wasn't exactly pacy either. Nor tall.

Insuas positional-sense is what worries me the most, but as said he's young so there's no need to panic just yet.

Potential first-team regular indeed.
That's about right really. And regards pace, Finnan was never particularly quick either.
Arbeloa surely wasn't either.

What about Riise? I don't think he was slow but surely he was no Usain Bolt either? As I remember pace wasn't one of his main attributes.

Was it Insua who crossed the ball in to Kuyt in the last minute against Stoke? That cross was a belter. He also whipped in a great one against Bolton, Kuyt went for it with his foot rather than his head.

It was Insua who chipped the ball onto Aqui's header for Kuyts goal against Bolton as well.

He's got a great cross on him really. Something we've dearly missed over the years.

Anyone think the voting is been done in a way to annoy Brendan?
No, but I do think that some people would be weary of posting their feelings about Insua, or any other player Brendan destests, for fear of a beat down. I think that poll represents an honest view of Insua.
I don't. I think it's the result of a mini resurgence of form, and largely ignores the amount of goals he's cost us this season. Not that it's his fault really, but it's still true nonetheless.
That's really not true. We've played with 2 LB's on more than one occasion, with the sole aim of protecting Insua.

Didn't help.
One of the last times Aurelio started ahead of Insua, he was invisible for most of the match and didn't really afford him much protection.

Insua is still suspect at times - for example, he got done badly twice against Bolton by making an ill advised challenge - but he's unquestionably better with Riera ahead of him.

What makes you think that? Because my name is included in one of the poll options?

I can't say I take any pleasure in stating back in 2008 that he seemed a bit slow and fat, and therefore I was very unsure about him, but some of his displays this season have bordered on the criminal and he has cost us lots of goals.

As I said earlier, I fear he may become another Lucas. A player that deep down we all know shouldn't be anywhere near our team, but many will try and convince themselves for whatver reason (He's Young! He's learning! He's from South America!) that he will, one day, be good enough, and so we will have to suffer him for another few years. And win nothing.

He won't ever be good enough. Sorry.

Well no. The fact that 9 people have said he is gonna be world class.

9 people voted potential world class?! seriously, WTF?!!
I pose a question to the special 9, based on WHAT exactly?

???

He is young, he has not been helped by those playing in front of him, it's a bit too soon to make a real judgement.
Potential regular

i think he started to loose some weight he actually beat the bolton right back for pace and went passed him with ease.Either he gained some pace or the bolton right back must be extremely slow .i think the problem with insua is not lack of pace but rather poor positional sense he seems confused whether to attack or stay back and defend .

That's the one for me. I thought he was very good coming in last season, but like a number of players, he's had some pretty dreadful performances this season. He's much better than Brendan allows, but I'd be a liar if I didn't admit my confidence in him has been shaken somewhat.

Cracking performance against Bolton so we'll see if he can push on from that.

I can accept some people's opinion who think he (insua) is decent, I can accept some think he can mature into a good player (he's already a first team regular) but world class? really? seriously, really?

That was explained by mark and keni earlier. If he's unsure of what the person in front of him gonna do, where does he think he gonna position himself?

Galatasaray apparently trying to move on all their loan players and West Ham will move for him if they fail to sign Wayne Bridge from Man City

we have a left back problem???
I think we're okay when aurelio is fit...so yes, yes we have a left back problem.

It does make me chuckle when people look at certain areas and blast "oh, that area - left back - we have a problem there"

There are problems fucking everywhere.......... everyfuckingwhere!!!!!!
