Insua - Just a thought

So judging by the line ups in Oncy's thread I see that many of you have picked Insua for the left fullback spot. The coming season could lead to his breakthrough, but there's also a small chance of failure.
I just want you guys to remember that he's only 20 years old before you start harassing him like Sissoko etc. Many of the leading posters here tend to have opinions that spawn hate campaigns towards some of the players because their thoughts are very respected by other posters.

Insua needs as much confidence as he can get and every time the crowds at Anfield moans at a misplaced pass or something it'll only make his situation worse.

So I guess I'm just trying to do my part in protecting him, though the biggest responsibility lies with Rafa.

Insua played about 20 games last season and always looked good, hence the praise, he won't get harassed like Sissoko.

That's all well and good, but Sissoko played regularly an entire season and was superb.
Played a big part in us winning the FA cup.
Still....

The crowd at Anfield are generally more tolerant, or at least give a decent chance to players, than on here

Sissoko was good but even after twenty games his "shortfalls" were clear, the problem with Sissoko was that everyone saw these problems as something which would go away as he learned how to play football better, alas they didn't.

No such criticism can really be made of Insua.

I've only seen Insua fuck up once and that was against Hull when he didn't track back to mark Giovanni before he scored.

I've only been there a couple of times but I'll take your word for it.

I never got mono bashing. I'd love him as a back up for xabi or hard cunt Argie Bargie beast. India looks dandy an smart. I'm game for him sorting stuff out. Age is shite. Your either good or shit. Or you have potential like Lucarse. Har.

I hope Insua does well. He's certainly a better option than Dossena. However, I'd still pick Aurelio ahead of him when he's not injured.

(Yes, I know).

Correct. I'm with you Bunny.

Ive got his back. Dont worry. I've been convinced of his ability this many year.
Someone else was too, but i forget who.

I like Insua and I like Aurelio too when he's fit.

LB position will be just fine if they don't get injuries at the same time (read: if Insua doesn't get injured)

Yeah, you forget, you forget, because I was backing him to play for the first team when you were just a glint in your Da's eye sunny Jim.

i'm proud to say that the overwhelming number of liverpool fans did not harass sissoko but in fact supported him and encouraged him.

*spits out teeth, wipes mouth, takes machine gun from inside jacket pocket and sprays Oncy full of holes*

Shame. I quite liked you as well.

its when sissoko tried to become a box to box midfielder that it started to go wrong for him. should have kept the lad to keep doing what he was good at instead of making the attacking runs.

as long as insua doesn't decide he's torres and end up out of position all the time he'll be ok.

i've only really seen kuyt (deservedly so) 2 seasons ago and lucas get overtly criticised. lucas may be 1st choice if alonso leaves. that'll be interesting

Am I the only one who doesn't think Insua's all that?
[/quote]

Nope, at this point I'd start a fit Aurelio ahead of him every single time

Everytime I have watched Insua he has impressed me and his performance against Arsenal was wonderous proving he can play against a big side, as far as im concerned we have got quite the player on our hands.

I thought he was fucking shit away to West Brom towards the end of last season.

Still, you gotta expect these peaks and troughs from youngsters I guess. There's just something about him that worries me.

I think a season with him rotating with Aurelio will let us see more of his pros and cons then it will be evident what level of player we have, his performances are so confident for a youngster though which I find really encouraging!

A little too "confident" for my liking. There's something about his approach that irks me. I worry he could be a touch lazy.

Anyway, we'll see.

Aurelio is better and should start the big games, but Insua looks ok. My only concern is everyone raves about him but who's he faced? Dunno who was on the right wing for Arsenal that day, but they didn't really test Insua.

Insua has never struck me as being lazy. He does always look like a fat kid out of breath though.

The main issues from what I can recall (I feel fucking senile these days, I really do) are that he needs to work on his positioning and improve his man marking (he can be a little rash in when deciding to go for the ball at times). I think he's got the talent and intelligence to get there though.

Either way, he doesn't need to be spectacular in order to be a success. I'd be very happy if he just turned out to be a solid squaddie that ends up saving us some money in the transfer market.
