Considering that we have Mascherano, the Argentine skipper and Pellegrino on the sidelines, there is no doubt that Insua is being monitored.

Lucas is back in the Brazil squad so I wouldn't be suprised to see Insua get a call up for the Argies soon enough, hopefully he 's playing good enough to deserve one.

I wonder if he is well known back in Argentina. It's not an insignificant feat to break into the Liverpool side from the reserves and he's certainly well ahead of Dossena in the pecking order it would seem.

By all accounts he was poor in the last youth tournament he participated in, so I'm not sure how he's viewed within the national setup but they're not spoilt for choice, so maybe he'll have a shot of making the squad.

Insua is doing a good job defensively but he has to contribute more offensively. If he gets a couple of assists and maybe a goal or two, he'll definitely be selected.

He was poor but he still captained the side.

It's not that he doesn't have the ability to do so, he's has a wonderfully accurate cross on him for instance.

The problem lies with his consistency over the halfway line. Sometimes he looks experienced, efficient and effective, and other times he gets into a good position and then sheepishly fucks everything up.

And played at CH, so the 3-4-3 might not be so much of a stretch.

Depends if Maradona is indeed even the one doing the selections. It was a mad choice to appoint him as a manager and he could well not last untill the World Cup.

I'd be surprised if Argentina couldn't find a better LB than Insua.

He's got great upper body strength, I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen him shrug players off the ball.

For what it is worth, I think we will see Insua come on leaps and bounds if he continues to be first choice LB, and gets a long run in the team. The improvement and confidence is visible almost every game.
I see no reason why he should not be in with a shout.

Rafa's interview just now on the tv channel.

Q: Can Insua be our 1st choice LB for years to come?

A: He has to to compete with Aurelio who has a lot of quality and Dossena who's working very hard.

Damned with faint praise?

Edit - I meant Dossena damned with faint praise, not Insua.

Aurelio is our first choice LB but I'm Insua will get plenty of games when Aurelio is either injured or being protected from getting injured. I'm made up that he's taken his chances in the first team - things were definitely getting stale for him in the reserves and as we've seen, the "Argie Warnock" (which imbecile came up with that by the way?) can add value to the first team squad.

2nd half of interview.

Skrtel has been training, but Stoke game was too soon. (He'll decide on Monday if he's fit.)
Torres had stitches in his eye and has been training. (OK for Monday.)
Agger has seen a specialist and may need surgery on his back, but he doesn't think he'll be out for long. (Make your own mind up.)

Ryan I think.

Rafa thinks so, as do I, early days but I think Insua is growing into an excellent full back.

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N165523090824-0754.htm

Rafa Benitez believes Emiliano Insua's progress at Liverpool could soon earn him a call from Argentina boss Diego Maradona.
The 20-year-old has started the season as first choice left-back at Anfield, though he can expect stiff competition from Andrea Dossena and the recuperating Fabio Aurelio as the campaign progresses.

Insua's emergence hasn't escaped the attention of Maradona and his staff, according to Benitez.

"Maradona is watching him and the Argentina staff are monitoring the situation because they know he's doing well," the manager told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I think in the future - I don't know how long but sooner rather than later - he will be with the national team."

While Insua clearly has a great future in English football, Benitez has made the youngster no promises about his first-team position.

With Aurelio expected back from a knee injury in the autumn and Dossena reaching full fitness after his Confederation Cup antics, the gaffer has plenty of options down the left.

He said: "We knew he was a player with potential and he is improving. He already has some experience for his age and he's keen to learn. For us it's been a good addition and hopefully he'll continue playing well.

"He has to compete with Aurelio, who is a player with real quality, and with Dossena, a player with experience who is working very hard and who plays for Italy.

"He has to compete but he'll have his chances."

'Maradona is watching him'

Fill me with confidence, why don't you Rafa.

He's fairly average at the moment but he's young and will only get better, so he's one to watch out for I guess.

Prove it!!

It definitely was Brendan but he was hearing off another source. I don't think he watched the reserves at all.

I'm not a huge Insua fan myself, but he's doing well at the moment and hopefully he can learn from Johnson.

We should be looking to make our left side as classy as our right...

INSUA WINS FIRST ARGENTINA CALL-UP
Paul Eaton 26 September 2009

Emiliano Insua is celebrating today after receiving his first call-up to the Argentina national team.
The Liverpool defender, who has been in impressive form for the Reds this season, has been named in Diego Maradona's squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay.

I bet Mascherano had a talk with Maradona about Heinze.

well done to the lad, he has been playing well but can't help think there's too many short players in that argie team

Me, Doctor Mac > 1 year > other fans > 1 year > Rafa and more fans > 1 year > the other fans > 6 months > Maradona.

Fucking loser.
