I think that's a bit naive.

People have this impression that Arsenal have been sitting on piles of cash for the last 5 years or so, it isn't true and Wenger admitted as much at the end of last week. They knew they wouldn't have money to spend while building the stadium and they didn't - and Wenger never mentioned it once in the media. They do have it now and we know they bid for Pepe Reina in January, so the reluctance to spend idea is nonsense.

Wenger knows he'll get a lot more bang for his buck when City and Chelsea have to play by the UEFA rules. Arsenal could be the dominant transfer market force this summer.

I don't. They've had the same issues for a number of years now, but they're still not adressed.

They might be better off when the financial rules comes into play, but Wenger is to caught up in his youth philosopy imho. I'll be very surprised if they spend big, and so will all my Arsenal mates.

Ok, but I didn't say I believed it.

Especially with the increasing pressure on him to win something.

I've always had this feeling that Wenger seriously resents the way Slur won the league with kids and has tried, stubbornly, to do the same.

It's as if he's trying to build a team of players around the same age as each other, in the hope that it will develop and gel over the years into a title winner. Except he keeps losing players and they keep bottling it.

There are overt issues with his team that he doesn't try to fix. If he persists then he should be given the boot, however good he may be in other areas.

Wenger yesterday:

"We have the quality, that is for sure," the Frenchman said. "We have to strengthen the squad where it needs and make the right decision on that front. It [transfers] is always in my mind every day. The team have had an outstanding attitude and will not be rewarded because of small things, but small things cost you. It is frustrating because the team has produced the efforts. We have to be realistic that it [the title] is very unlikely now, but we have to finish as well as we can.

"If someone can convince me that the principles are wrong I am ready to change, but I feel we try to play football the proper way. When you don't win you question your principles, but you have to give yourself the right distance to see what is right and wrong in what you do. I think if something is wrong in our team, it is not the principles in playing our football."

He's one of the best managers around and the Gooners would be crazy to dump him now (like some of their fans want).

Yeah with the ownership now all but sorted i can't help but think that Wenger will be splashing the cash this summer.

Duh, it is the principles in playing your football, because you don't compromise on that setup, you need a backbone, yet the risk of sacrificing a fraction of your glamour and ability to be easy on the eye is too much of a price to pay.

He's quoted as saying he is going to buy a commanding CD for next season. That would do them a power of good, particularly if he buys a top keeper too.

I can't think of any 17 yr old commanding CDs

TBF to them, I think djourou has go the makings of a fine CB, and with vermaelen coming back they should be ok. Think he panic bought those 2 CDs last summer as both koscielny and squillachi are a bit shit

i can't decide on my opinion about this. he's been on his way to a proper breakdown and seems keen every other season to dismantle successful temas to start again. I think he has OCD in that respect. He keeps trying to find the formula he had for the invincibles season.

I honestly think that season ruined him

On the contrary he pretty much guarantees them CL knockouts every year and hardly costs the club much as he seems afraid to open the purse strings.

They should keep him but maybe try and push him into taking on some new staff (maybe a new no.2?) to give them some new ideas. It's done Ferguson no harm in the past.

Pat Rice is retiring this year, so he will have a new No.2.......that he doesn't listen to.

Wenger spent 12 mill £ on centre backs this summer, and still hasnt solved their issues.

He can talk all he want, but I think he's to stubborn and to caught up in his own system/philosophy.
